What is the point of article directories? I want to start an article website portfolio and was told that I should start submitting my articles to directories in order to bring traction to my site? IS this what article directories really do? And is it in my best interest to post my work there in order for increase buyers to my website?

    Honestly....

I personally think directories are a waste of time for the most part.

If anything - they are a good way to get a backlink if that's your thing.

But mostly it's just a "post it, leave, never come back" type of thing.

Whoever suggested that you put articles on article directories is a fail SEO and he's terrible.

They're all nofuckingfollow now (unless im wrong) brought about by the Google nazis, what I would focus on is developing your own properties whatever they may be.

As others said, it is waste of time. Even though that you may try ahead to submit your site related articles into free sites and make back links. Have you checking the free sites deeply ?

As you already know, it's waste of time. No follow links from ARM is like killing time. You can watch a movie instead.

Don't waste your time, they are not useful anymore, might be even harmful.

At best, article directories are ok for link diversity for your tier 1 and good for GSA spamming for tier 2 contextual.

    Home Page:
AD are not a waste of time at all, they have their uses. However if your attention is to draw attention to your work then do not use them, they are not good for that purpose.

You would be better off posting the content to your own website and finding ways to promote that content.

Generally people will post spun content or just crap/cheap articles to ADs for links.

Anyone that states that because they are mostly nofollow links that they have no use at all is a moron. Nofollow links are a perfectly valid form of promotion but ADs will not be a good way to sell a product or to build your portfolio.

I'm only using them to diversify my backlink profile for some of my sites. They also help with diversifying anchor texts.
