What is the point for reseller hosting ?

Check out hostgator.com reseller package, it works well for me

I don't why everyone likes hostgator unless you are an affiliate of theirs (very good commission apparently). I don't know about now, but I left them when they got annoyed about the fact that I was using up too many resources running scripts like rss to blog. Not only me, many complained about having their accounts suspended or terminated. They used to be classed as rogues.

I was thinking about this idea actually...

To give them a domain, and let them give me there site. I upload it on there domain, BUT.. They can't edit it.


Gatorhost? $25/month
Charge people $5/month

300 people, $5/month = $50/day

People can go get their own hosting but a lot of people don't know how to do that or even want to deal with learning and would rather pay someone else $10 a month.

I charge a min of $10 but tell them they can get it cheaper elsewhere. I also tell them that I set everything up for them including their email accounts. Depends what kind of people you are selling to but a lot of them would rather pay a few bucks more per month for some one else to take care of it.

I have had a hostgator account for many years as they were one of the best but like all of the good ones do, I think they are finally getting too big. The support has been going down hill lately. What used to take an hour now sometimes takes them a few ticket reply's & 3 - 8 hours. You see a lot of complaints on their forums now which used to be rare.

Another problem I see with hosting is dealing with customer issues. I have an account with fasthosts where I have 30+ domains hosted. They don't charge me anything because they're trying to get established here in the US, but I don't feel comfortable bringing anyone else on because I don't want to deal with customers.

Anyone have an experience with that? I have thought about selling sites then getting the hosting, but I don't want to take phone calls from morons.

I suppose I could do that, but I know sooner or later I'd have to deal with a high maintenance noob.
