I'm an IT consultant and I've been studying up on SEO for about a month now. I published my site yesterday and made about a dollar and some change from adsense in about 24 hours. I don't expect to become rich overnight but I like to diversify my hustles and this is looking like it will be one of them.

With that being said, I believe that it pays to learn from other people that have been there/done that. If you don't mind me asking, what was the most important thing that you have learned since you began? I'm pretty sure I will hear that you won't get rich overnight and without hard work. I've pretty much gathered that from my research so far. I'll be sure to come back to this topic and add to it when I have learned something from my own experience.

    1) good results take time
    2) if you play with Adsense, don't play with Google

Make enough backlinks to rank the site(depending on your KW research you will have an estimation) and move on to next project. Check 2-3 weeks later. many people waste time checking ranking and waiting for the results.

Not to trust or rely on google for any reason. In other words, treat it as a necessary evil, nothing less, nothing more. HTH.

Leverage your database driven applications for broad optimization across hundreds or thousands of terms. Add user generated content to inject some much needed uniqueness across these dynamic pages. You'll be suprised what you can rank for with a shotgun approach and you don't have to worry about all of your eggs being in one basket.

The biggest thing I've learned is that the shotgun approach to learning is the best way to understand what works for you, and what doesn't. Try a whole bunch of different approaches on different sites, and see what works.

When I first got going I would just read up on new techniques, and then stick to 'a plan', even if it wasn't working. Then I decided screw it, and try a whole bunch of different things. And now I just invest in those things that I've found that worked in the past. (as well as continue trying new things).

i agree with linksmaster. Patience is the key to be good at IM.

When i first started i thought as soon as you launched a new site money would be pouring in the first week. Boy was i wrong.

Think of it this way. if i want to target a micro niche on google with 1500+ searches and low competition. I would create a plan that would last about 2 Months! no joke man, 2 months for a micro niche site is not unrealistic.

Simply put... quality is better than quantity.

I'd rather have a few high PR backlinks instead of a thousand PR01- links.

Pay for quality, get quality results.

Focus on qiality! Do SEO, not spamming and you will be just fine. It's that simple, but very few people do it this way
