This is just speculation. Not only IM but I have thought about these things:
    - There is probably a new recession going down in the next 1-2 years. This has been a long period of growth in the stock markets. When that happens there will be challenges but also new opportunities.
    - More and more people are becoming internet marketers because of the whole 4-hour-workweek and the "digital nomad" community is growing like crazy, they are basically backpackers with a laptop who start online businesses, so there will be increasing competition every year.
    - The Alibaba Group are seeing a lot of growth with Alibaba, AliExpress and AliPay. Watch some interviews with Jack Ma. The guy is serious about changing the way small business works and sell online. More people will buy many products directly from China. It will be tougher for resellers or middlemen. But if you are really good with marketing reasearch you can always find small niches where you can compete.
    - Focus on EMAIL LIST. Will be even more important in the future. Social media sites can die in popularity and a new one can take its place. Their algorythms can change and you cannot reach any of your followers. For example with Facebook's algorythm, it doesn't matter if you have 1 million likes on your page, if you share something, only a few percent will be able to see it, and more people will see if people like/share/comment and you will have to pay to boost your own posts to reach your own followers. Email is the best way to keep contact with your followers, and the highest chance that they read your messges.
    - The sharing economy will continue to make it easier for people to make money off their stuff. You can rent out all of your stuff. Let people rent posts on your PBNs, let them rent your house when you are traveling, and in a few years you can rent out your self-driving car to Uber or Tesla to make money for you while you are not using it (which is 96% of the time), and there will be extra services built to help you automate all of this.
    - Amazon will just continue to grow and steal market share from Walmart, Target and all the other ones.
    - Every new service you see in Silicon Valley will be copied and brought to third-world countries. You can do the same. Read about the company Rocket Internet. Basically all they do is steal new ideas from Silicon Valley and bring them to third-world countries and grow like crazy.

I second this opinion. The downside is that there will be less ad spend (many agencies died during the 08 crash). The upside is that IM is very flexible and external events don't affect is quite the same as it would a corporate cubicle.

    Great comment!

Banks are also back to their old tricks again with lending more than people can afford.

Ticking time bomb but if positioned well a recession dilutes the amount of business competition (weak business dies) = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The rocket internet story was an interesting read. If the ebay clone story is real it`s truly amazing. Once u get ur hands on that amount of cash is easy to scale it up.

I have not watched the show. I meant the real place Silicon Valley. There is always a new Uber-clone or Amazon-clone or Netflix-clone or food-delivery-clone popping up in third-world countries before the original company of the idea establishes themselves in that country. Some of these clone-companies grow ridiculously fast, and the founders sometimes sell their clone-company back to the "original company" when they choose to enter that country for a hundred million dollars, only a few years later...

To add to my previous comment:
    - There are many countries that undergo political changes, or have recently had a revolution, or open up their economy to more international trade, or slowly change their values because of cultural influence from other countries. Whether it is in the online or offline world, there will be lots of new opportunities in these countries. A few examples are Cuba, Iran, Haiti, and Tunisia.
    - Oil prices have been lower than expected for a long time and the longer they continue to stay low, entire industries in oil-based economies will be forced to sell their assets and businesses. Also, the infrastructure surrounding the oil industry in these countries (the services that cater to the oil industry) such as hotels, transportation companies, shipping boats, etc, will struggle. When people are interested in selling quickly to get out, there could be great opportunities for those with a lot of capital, but also risky of course.

It wasn't sarcasm bro .... They say this every time on every IM thread ....... Sarcasm is different from deliberately discouraging people
