As bullshit jobs are more popular than ever, they seem to increase and take a different level today.

I refer as bullshit job as "Bullshit jobs are jobs which even the person doing the job can't really justify the existence of, but they have to pretend that there's some reason for it to exist."

One of my friend told me she had a job, working five days a week to do this...handle recreational activities in a nursing home.

Her work involved interviewing residents to record their personal preferences on a form. Then she would enter that data into a computer, after which they would promptly forget about it forever because...it's like that, they never used this and she is doing it for 3 years now.

Your turn? this will be fun, I have 2 more examples after :D

The most bullshit job I ever done was putting letters in envelopes and sealing them up. On repeat. All day. Non-stop.

Not a pointless job as you are referring to, but none the less it was definitely a bullshit job and probably the worst one I’ve ever had to do.

I lasted one day then I quit because it was mind-numbingly boring.
 
Every job has a purpose, it may be bullshit to you but not to others. For example, I hate Sales but it is a true money maker if you have the talent for it. When I was younger, I took up a job in sales and did well but I hated every bit of it. Made me think of what it is that I want to do in life. You can make money other ways as well, but it has to be something you enjoy, in other words it should not be a bullshit job for you. However, just because it is bullshit for you, doesn't mean it is bullshit for everyone :) to each their own.
 
The counties, cities, and sheriff's departments over here in California are always hiring for "office assistant" positions.

In case you're wondering what an office assistant is, it depends on who hires you. For example, for the counties, it's usually very basic clerical duty work any old VA can do, although my mother worked in one office where some people did absolutely nothing but browse Facebook all day. This is a tiered position as well (e.g., office assistant I, II, and III). How do you move up in these positions, you ask? That depends on how much you brown-nose the supervisor and how much they like you.
 
Sales and Marketing. The difference is here you need to bullshit your way around.

I am a proud sales guy now 14 plus years and I must say my Bullshiting skills have improved very well. ;)

I had to do this for 2 months when I was obligated to serve in an hospital 8 years ago... it was horrible...

read the definition I put again... the person herself consider her work meaningless, my friend told me her job had no meaning at all, not my words.

I worked for the state in many capacities; I can say one part of my job which I found to be B.S was that we had to do an assessment of our patients [Riker's island] and ask them if they had used drugs on the outside when they have been locked up. Now, I get there are drugs in prison. Still, the problem with the survey[the state was paying, I heard 8,000 dollars for each one done] was asking if they were using outside of prison when we knew they had been locked up the entire time and now are in a maximum-security psychiatric facility. The whole thing was crap, along with some people never doing anything on the job and checking out.

I have worked in numerous facilities where your life never meant too much to the employer.

My last straw was when my great boss left, and a new boss came in and said, " you have a big room'. You might not know what a person is saying, but that means you don't deserve the size of the room. Even though they gave great benefits and retirement, I finally decided to bet on myself. I don't think I have ever told this story, and sorry if it's not exactly fit the criteria of the thread.
 
any government employee is as useless as they get
store security guards are also pretty useless. they just stand there doing nothing all day. many of them barely speak a word of english.

Let's not make an absolute saying 100%, as a lot of people work hard every day at those positions. Look at some of the lootings in certain states, and their hands are tied. Sorry, you can't say 100 percent as that is not accurate and not correct as even though I worked with some people who mailed it in, some showed up every day and busted their butt.
