    title
    meta description
    2-3% within main description

what other rules must you follow? for the keyword to be strong within the content
for it to be easier for SEO to do its magic

I find it difficult to get the word density beyond 1% . It will look too spammy!

I agree - I need to work on this as well make it blend in well without sounding too spammy.

Also another point how about mentioning your keywords in the comment area? would this be an advantage

One thing I do is add the keyword as section headers - which works well cause it reinforces the keyword with the H1/H2/H3 tags AND adds the keyword in context. ie:

    Code:
<h1>White card tables: Their many functions</h1>
paragraph or 2, yada, yada, yada

<h2>White card tables: Why I should choose white?</h2>
paragraph or 2, yada, yada, yada

<h3>White card tables: Should I consider other types?</h3>
paragraph or 2, yada, yada, yada

This is just a quick example of course, and absolutely include it in your paragraphs - at least once bolded, once underlined and once italics (em). Two little cheats to get them in twice more without being spammy - at the end of your article include the following with your keywords:
    Code:
Thank you for reading our article on White Card Tables! We hope you've enjoyed it as much as we did.

Tags: white card tables, card tables, tables

checkout and analyze the top 10 results, see what they are doing and fine tune your page. there is no exact density that magically works with all sites

I just add them as text at the end of my article if I need a little density bump - It's meant to look similar to what Wordpress would add along with links but mine is simply to add keyword density by adding a line people would see, but not pay attention to because they see it all the time.
