I'm fairly new to this stuff. I have a domain name that I'm considering selling. Is it possible to just sell the domain or do I need to have a website in order to sell it? I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

You can just sell the domain by itself, and there is no website required at all. You should be able to sell it on this forum in the right section, but there are also other forums which are dedicated to domain names, such as namepros.com

The best way to sell a domain is for someone to approach you trying to buy the domain.

There are various venues you can try and actively sell a domain like Flippa & Sedo, who take a cut. Flippa is an auction, Sedo is a listing that turns into an auction, if you want, but with no time cap.

There is also the option of you identifying buyers and proactively approaching them.

That all said, is this a domain you registered yesterday or one that you have had for years? The reason I ask is because 99.99% of domains are garbage, especial the kind registered by people fresh into domaining. I reg'd a whole bunch or crap before I realized you really need to be buying higher quality domains on the drop at a venue like Namejet if you want to sell domains.

You should check out some domain centric forums and blogs to get a better understanding of buying, selling and values of domains.

    Good luck.

From my experience, it all depends whether your portfolio of domains consists of Premium, one/two word, highly brandable domain names or you're dealing with list of not-so-good names (e.g. Domains with some good keywords, etc.)
Try Flippa I have not sold there but it seems it's quite successful .(The biggest sale there was for about $400,000). You can also try Godaddy auctions.

Flippa is a good one, godaddy auctions is also popular, you can also try sitepoint or freemarket.
To have an idea on how much is your domain go to estibot and check what is the rough estimate. Normally i can sell my domain 1/8 or 1/10 of their valuation :)

Flippa, godaddy auctions, list it here, list it on other forums, or go to google and type in "sell my domain".

There are few good website to sell your domain like Godaddy Auctions, Flippa and Sedo. But you can post on forums to sell your domain without giving a cut to anyone. You can post your domain here in BHW. But mind that nobody will buy your domain if its not a good word or have a good authority build up unless you are really lucky :)

Flippa is a good marketplace if you have EMD/premium domains, but I'm not sure if it's a good place to sell SEO friendly domain names!

I sold many SEO friendly domains on Facebook groups few months ago, but I'm looking for a good place because as we know members on Facebook groups are not able to pay $xxx for a domain name, low ball offers out there! and it's hard to find the right customer!

    Any thoughts guys?

It especially matters what the domain is.. they definitely get into some high price ranges, but if it's a decent and clear domain, but not worth anything significant, then I would advise putting a decent site on it.... but to answer your question probably Flippa hands down. I don't Flip domains, but Flippa's traffic heavily outweighs their negatives... Again, if the domain is clear and niche-specific but not worth much by itself.......... put a site on it. Trying to save you money.

Well, outside of mentioned services where you list domain for sale. You can also use escrow.com, if you already have a buyer. I've used it for a few purchases/sales and works well in terms of verifying of funds and transferring of domain.
