There must be a simple way other than just google and looking through 1000s of websites

how do you find a list of websites to advertise on in your niche?

I want to run ads on blogs/forums but cant figure out the best way to do an organized search.

Is there a company that I can pay to do this for me as well?

PPC, google searches, and connections. I don't know of any companies which do prospecting for you--at least not in any way that's profitable for the end-user.

Scrape the serps for all the high traffic keywords in your niche (eg. use Scrapebox if you're a SB fan). Those are the sites you want to advertise on, because those are the sites with the high quality SE traffic. :)

Yes, it will take a lot of time. If you don't want to have to contact each owner individually, your next best bets are buying targeted placements through an ad network: eg. Adwords content network, pulse360, advertising.com etc.

Google ad planner is also very helpful for gathering a list of sites based on criteria you specify.
