That depends on you threat model, for 99,8% of this boards members it is overkill but I have seen crazier and more nested opsec chains and people who use them regulary. And most users would for sure leave traces (or even their identity) evene with those kinds of setups, as this is just a small part of the game.

Mullvad, AirVPN, IVPN, OVPN, these are some that are known for being safe, and no shadowy pratice(Mullvad doesn't even have an affiliate service, just from mouth, that's why you often don't see them in the "Top X VPN" which are bullshit because they are here to sell you affiliates).
