I am trying to put together an SEO package for offsite clients.

As part of that though, I'd love to be able to provide both pre-sales and monthly reports.

What is the best tool (paid or free), that I can use to generate reports for both on-site performance and general SEO metrics.

One that can both generate a PDF, and allow for easy exporting to Excel would be great.

If you're doing just SEO, use:
    Spydermate
    SEOMOZ
    RavenSEO
    Search Metrics
They are all free for 30 days then they want to charge your credit card there after. If you're serious about any of the above tools, shoot me a private message and i'l get you my coupon code.

There are tons more but that's what I used with my clients. Of course I focus on conversion optimization as well so I provide reports for that as well as social media and email marketing. :)

Thank you both to Justin and SolidTactics

    I will investigate them further.

To all you pros out there, please keep the suggestions coming.

I think one problem anyone doing offline SEO will invariably run into, is keeping clients happy with shiny 'corporate style' reports. Makes them feel they are getting their money's worth, even if not much is actually happening on the SERPs front.

And any tool that can help automate this, is a good thing. Otherwise, once could end up spending as much time compiling the reports as one spends actually doing the SEO.

I am using Raventools, and I highly recommend them. Not just for reporting, but for research, link management, team management, customer relationship management, and more. They have a free 30 day trial.

The guys over at raven tools basically use the seomoz and magestic seo api's so its like a mashup of various tools all in one.

Check out brightlocal. I use their LSEO report, first one is free, then it's something like $2 a piece after. You can white-label it, which is nice. Worth the price for me.

I also use BrightLocal. It's the only one I've found that tracks Google Local. And their citation tracker is pretty useful.

    Spydermate is pretty nice too.

    Hi judson,
Try http://www.majesticseo.com/ (not affiliated with them.)

I just learned about them today and they give you some very good real time statistics regarding your site with a history. They do have a paid portion, (which I have not tried,) but their free version seems good to me.

    Cheers!
    Andrew

Personally I'm a HUGE fan of "My SEO Tool" myseotoool.com
I actually up sell clients with this tool on many occasions. I will either up sell them on the reporting of social metrics or I will include that with social media services. I do the same with google maps and PPC conversions. My seo tool is the one stop shop from everything track-able online.
I give it the Thumbs up!

I'm using SEO power suite. I haven't used ravens tools or SEOMoz so I really can't compare or comment.
