I used GoDaddy, but the support wasn't good. Now, I use Namecheap for 90% of my domains. Their live chat is one click away.
NameCheap & NameSilo are reliable for not-so-legal sites? For domain extensions, do you think .com is as "resistant" as .is or other ccTLDs?
I am using Namecheap for domain registration since 2011 and never face any kind of problem.
I used to like Namecheap, particularly for their fast clean backend, but not anymore. A year ago or so when I was trying to register an expired .DE domain they wouldn't let me and someone from there wanted to discuss with me what I want to do with the domain etc.., someone from another country mind you that has no clue about the language

So it seems they had it too good for too long and decided to extend their responsibilities a bit and try and play domain police.

The domain was something like "meier-real-estate.de" - basically an extremely common family name, e.g. "Meier" plus the term real estate. Not only was I annoyed that they would care at all, it was totally off-putting for me that they have apparently no clue what the hell they are talking about, but still choose to question a long time customer with some truly stupid lists they apparently compiled and use

I just went to Hetzner and registered the domain there.

Apart from Hetzner, which has only a small selection of country level domains, at this time I'd suggest Cloudflare as a second option.

The domain registrar business is notoriously shady IMHO
