Hello BHW,

I'm so confused about the recommendations for keyword density from all the sources. Some say 2% and some say 0.5%.

My view so far is that it's hard to insert keywords 2% naturally. But anything less seems like maybe the page will not rank.

Does anyone have upto date advice for 2023?

Ever heard of writing just normal? Google wants normal writing, not the manipulated number that probably everyone mentions. Maybe once you have 100 articles and are ranking well already, you could try adjusting them as part of your SEO research. But that would only be fair to find out if you had visits and the articles were ranking so you could test such minor details if you wanted and see the difference in traffic. I suppose it does matter to a point though. You don't want anything over 30%! lol

You can use variations of your keyword and try to reach 1.5% to 2%. You don't have to reach this percentage every time, because Google understands your topic when you use phrases.

Keep the articles as natural as possible, this is very important. Otherwise, your visitors will leave very quickly.

Density is not a metric nowadays in fact, writting wrongly because of this, could be worse than better. So for example, saying a 3% for a 1K word article means a total of 30 repetitions, which for me, or they appear naturally when you are writting about such, or its going to be simply too much.
Personally I would focus on just including relevant KW a couple of times per article (2 or 3 times, and the most important in some headings) and from that just keep monitoring for keywords that may be popping you in your analytics software to reinforce the power of such now and then.

I've seen pages with a good stuffing ranking, and others with barely no keywords at all ranking also. So technically, I find it's more about relevancy than the keywords themselves.

So ask yourself: Is it relevant to stuff the page? Then go on. If you are talking about "Bulldogs" maybe you will write bulldogs like 50 times in a 1K word article, and this is completely normal.
But if you want to position: "How to clean your bulldog", writing 30 times "how to clean your bulldog" in the text, it's going to be obnoxious AF.

Keyword density is not a factor you have to wonder about. The models used by Google, Bing, etc. are not based on the presence of the keyword alone, but on the context of the text to the word. In some cases, it may make good sense to mention a word 25 times if it is based on the correct context, and other times it only makes sense to mention it 1 time.

Keyword density was only relevant before the search engines began to use NLP to understand page content, before that time simpler algorithms such as "tfidf" were used to understand keywords, to support the understanding of the relevance of the keywords semantic HTML elements, such as title and headings were used.

The above has become less relevant as the ML models base keywords' relevance on context and not frequency.

I include a keyword to title tag, H1 and url and after that I dont care about the keyword density. I just try to fulfil the user intent and provide best possible answer to the search query. I include long tail keywords to h2 and h3 titles if it comes natural and benefits the reader. I have no idea whats the keyword density in my posts but they rank very good and get traffic.

Personally I write an article and then check to see what the KW density is compared to the current top 10. If I am way off I make a few adjustments, otherwise I rank it and only when I am pushing for the top spot do I double check density again to make sure I am still good.

Often when I see drops in pages, checking the current top 10 KW density and making a few quick changes is all that is needed to push it back up.

Don't worry about keyword density, write to your audience, not for search engines. Google is getting more "natural" as the years progress and white hat sites will always have an edge in the end.

I wouldn't stress over it
Mentioning the kw 2-3 times per article would do

Don't even worry about keyword density in 2023. We have reached a place far away from that kind of 2012 SEO

Forget about that term just keep one thing in mind don't overuse your keywords.
Write for the intent & replicate all info from top ranking pages.

Thank you for all the feedback and great answers, it seems like naturally comes out on top and gives me great peace of mind that I'm not over doing or under doing my KW density. Thanks so much for your time and knowledge.

Mate - write all natural content for best SEO process.

Alternatively, you can use 3-5 times your main keyword in 1000-1200 words article.

Don't over optimized.

I think that writing good interesting content is the main, but as for me - i use 2 keywords in one article. I think it is enough

This ..

Doesn't matter anymore .. keyword density is not user intent. Content itself doesn't matter much nowadays! Number of words, subheading ..etc

Its now user experience as the algorithm became so good at understanding people rather pages. Just give the user what he wants then make sure to tell people about it throught backlinks.

The best keyword density for SEO in 2023 is expected to be 0.5% to 1% which means a keyword appears 3 to 6 times in a 600-word article or 5 to 10 times in a 1,000-word article. This range prevents unnatural keyword stuffing and helps improve the page’s search engine rankings.

Keyword density has become less important for search engine rankings in 2023. Instead, search engines prioritize the overall context and relevance of the content. While including relevant keywords is still important, the focus should be on creating valuable and engaging content for your audience and also use keywords naturally within your content.

Add main keywords where it's much needed in content, don't overstuff them. Next to it, you can use similar/LSI keywords that will make your SEO job easier.

it is good to maintaining keyword densities around 2% to 3%.
