Avast! offers a free anti-virus from their site for a single PC, been using it for years.

I have a New Defender Pro 15-1 for three computers 2-year subscription there $60 anywhere. Anti-Malware for me I'd rather load from hard copy downloading random things on the web while you're already vulnerable is a no no. Make me an offer I'll post it on the bay........,

Avast is good, but I highly recommend http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition-2012/3000-2239_4-10320142.html.

It's all you really need as far as an anti-virus program.

If your looking for something more lightweight I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. Otherwise, you can go with AVG.

I am currently using avira AV.

    It's annoying as hell.

Does AVG do the pop up asking for upgrade to pro version?

Another one for AVG here. Tried the others and some of them are difficult to uninstall and don't block half of the newer viruses out there. Actually don't have anything against MS Essentials either, but AVG is my #1 choice.

No, they do have an ad on the bottom of their AV when you manually scan something advertising for a paid upgrade. It is easy to ignore and doens't ever popup or act spammy.

Another thread for the same question?

If you're really that bothered, get both and use both.
