What is the best country to live in?

Make sure you don't move to a country that has internet censorship, or stick laws regarding the internet.

For me the best country would be Canada, but can't complain about country where I am living at, atleast here are no any poisonous spiders and snakes. (I am from Latvia, it is located at eastern Europe :) )

If you're wealthy = The US. Has the most options money can buy.

If you're not = Any Scandinavian country. Has the most options for the not well-off.

What do you guys think about Philippines and New Zealand? From the little knowledge I have about these countries New Zealand would be a better place to live but maybe some New Zealand/Philippines citizens can shed some light on this subject for me and for others too. :)

Germany looks pretty good and live to peace of mind also. Actually my friend is there some more months stay wt there. Really awesome feel.

Come in Romania if you want to live like a king, is a cheap country with low low taxes.. the teenagers are awesome, i think we have the most beautiful girls, we got winters with snow and summers with 30+ temp. You can enjoy the clubs, you just have to be more careful with people. And you can visit so many places here :) Romania is a easy country if you get money, you can do anything and is safe too

in Mauritius, not really much nasties but the mosquitoes can be annoying sometimes...

Few people mentioned Australia, but I think New Zealand is a better choice. Cheaper than Australia, but one of the highest standards when it comes to living, in the world. Beautiful nature, beaches, mountains, very nice people. Its on my to-go list...maybe in a few years I will move there for a few years. :)

You haven't lived in New Zealand, have you?

This country has some benefits, not so 'overcrowded', but... c'mon highest standards when it comes to living? They are brutally racist, EDUCATION SYSTEM IS THE ONE OF THE WORST, low wages and high living cost. Does this sounds highest standards when it comes to living? They can't even put road signs properly, there's no way you'll find anything using just road signs. Also, their justice system is developed in a bad way.

New Zealand is beautiful country, but it's not the country I would want to live. Thank god I left NZ.

Interresting...I heard the exact opposite from people I met from NZ and they have been the nicest people I met, too. What do you mean with they are racist? In what way?

Checking the latest income statistics, average income in New Zealand in 2012 was $48k($40k in US dollars) and the tax rate up to income $48k is only 17.5%. You realize that its more than in both, the US or Western Europe? Yes, gross income in Western Europe can be higher than that...but after government rape, I mean taxes, the net is way lower. So how is that not one of the highest standards in the world?

And it looks like they have no real estate tax...in the US, its not even worth to own property anymore, because just paying property taxes is going to be soon more expensive than paying rent.

You seem to consider quite a lot of countries racist, I guess you are just one of those who throw the racist word around. Your posts are even quite ironic, considering calling a whole country load of people racists, is in fact a racist comment.

I saw few harassment, random attacks with my own eyes on black people, but I wasn't talking about that kind of racism.

All I wanted to say, they'll rip you off because you're foreigner. Governments, b2b service people... It's like they're programmed to charge foreigners more.

Other thing, police. You need to be careful with them. You can get easily charged without actual evidence and this it not all. Many immigrants told me Police refused to help them because there's no cctv evidence ( or any other actual evidence. ), and I thought how it's even possible, so I didn't believed until my brother got robbed. He needed stitches on his face and got few bumps in the head. Ofc, he called police and filled complaint on the scene and guess what they did? They sent letter to him ( dated next day after incident ) that they have no leads and investigation is closed. If you ever been in NZ and spoke with few migrants, then you'll get an idea why NZ have many racists.

Also, your other posts about income.

Not every people can bank $48k a year. Also, if your income is above than $40k ( should be 40k or a bit more ) then you fall to different tax bracket too, which is about 31%-32% tax. So you'll be taxed with 3 brackets, not one. 11% ( up to 14k) , 17%(up to 40 or more not sure) and 32% ( up to 70k) and etc.. Some people also have to pay levy rate..

High living costs are very touchy subject when it comes to New Zealand.

I just speak from my experience, I lived in quite a few countries and NZ is the one of the last places I would want me or my family to live.

Every country has their own racists, but I haven't actually said that these countries are racist. Every country has their own pros and cons to live. I just write what I learned from my travelling experience.

Of course, its just statistical average. But every country uses the same method to calculate average income. So yes, if the average says 40k, many people will make less, but its the same everywhere...in Germany it says $55k per year, but many people make way less, also. Btw in Germany its $55k gross but only $33k net. So the net is the same for both, which I think is amazing, as Germany has one of the strongest economies in the world...if not the strongest and healthiest.

No offence, but your story is somehow hard to believe. I lived even in Honduras, which is statistically considered the most dangerous country in the world, but even I don't have stories like the above. Actually, nothing ever happened to me there nor was I robbed or even attacked once. Statistics are mostly useless, because in 3rd world countries, the murders and robberies mostly happen in places where you would never visit or even know they exist. But in 1st world countries, the statistics show murders in good areas, too. So its all relative...I felt safer in San Pedro(2nd highest crime rate in the world) than in Paris, for example. I was afraid to go out at night in Paris, seriously.

No worries, go to expat forums and you'll find many similar like mine.
