    Can someone please help/answer that.

What is the advantage of having the last letters of your URL made up by the extension, for example 'QuickCanv.as' for a canvas store.

I see it all the time and have always wondering if there is any real advantage? apart from if the .com is taken.

It's brandable and catchy, in some cases. I.E. delicio.us

absolutely nothing... that's why companies like delicious changed their domains back to a normal domain.

the only reason it's acceptable is when you want a URL shortener or something and need the shortest URL you can but still make it branded.. like goo.gl

Actually, i can be a disadvantage rather than advantage, now a days, people in general now the word ".com" even little kids, so by changing that to something unique but unfamiliar by many, people tend to question if it's a legit website or just a website with virus. So, what this help you? it help's getting less traffic than your regular estimation on monthly traffic. I hope it helps, this is not a general rule or theory, this is just my own opinion and point of view about that certain topic and/or question.
