I see guides talking about keyword density all the time but no one has clearly explained it well so I was hoping someone can clarify it. For example, in a guide I saw recently, it said to have keyword density of 20%, what does that mean? Generally, how many times should you put your keywords in an article?

Say, if your article is of 400 words and you mention your keyword 100 times, then your kw density is 25%.

hope you got your answer, if you have more questions, post here.

So you are saying the keyword is in the article 100 times right? Then isn't that way too much?

I was just trying to explain you the concept of KW density.
Ya, it is too much and is called KW stuffing. Don't use your main keyword more than 5% of the time.

I only use 2-5% of keyword density in my articles. For example, if I have a 500-word article, and the client tells me to have a keyword density of around 3%, then the number of keywords would be 15. 500 x .03 = 15

I presume you were getting trolled about 20% keyword density !

Make your articles human readable, this is more important than ever. Keyword stuffing was an easy way to rank a site ten years ago. You should try to get your keyword mentioned early in your article and then keep it less than 2%.

The percentage depends on your actual keyword. If your keyword is "football" it can be hard to write an article about football without naturally mentioning "football" several times. You wont get penalised for going over any percentage.

If your keyword is "Discount wicker garden furmiture in northern idaho" you can really only drop big ugly longtails like that into an article about two times before I never want to see it again.

If your page contains a content of about 500 words, it is having 3 - 4 KWs in it, then its considered to have right kind of KW density.

The better the content, better the KW usage in the first, 2 in middle & 1 in last para will make it more attractive & gets more link juice.
