Trying to rank for a very low competition 4,000/month search, should be easy right? It's not.

Checked out the keyword using various tools, it should be easy/very low competition.
Page One: Spots #2-3 (2) Sites Both Have ONE Inner page, it's just a photo with a map, there's nothing else..
They both have 200 back links, very low/no PR, just natural bullshit links, no social profiles, just absolutely nothing.
There is NO content, ZERO, just an image with a few outgoing links in it to another page with a image map, that's it.
The domains are 6-7 years old.
They've never had any SEO work done on them ever from what I can tell.

Then compare all the other sites on PAGE 2, they have 400-500 backlinks, okay quality backlinks, thousands of indexed pages, average domain 10-13 years, etc. Great On-Page SEO, lots of unique content, all have active real social profiles, etc. And NONE of them rank on page one..

What the hell is going on, as this makes no sense..

I have a 15 year old domain, it's 100% organic links till now (300), tons of unique content, perfect on-page seo, real social profiles, was on page 2, added 6 total high pr manual blog comments over 2 days with diverse url text, etc. Dropped down to the 4th page.. ? Been two weeks hasn't moved back up, not sure what to think of all of this.. Your thoughts?

in the exact same position as you. I have way more backlinks than my competitors but still stuck at position #12. I have a 3 year old domain and all my seo was blackhat but there were no direct blasts. im being outranked by blogger domains lmao

Have you checked the backlinks of the competitor's backlinks? I saw a 4 star hotel in France listed as #1 for a high-competition kw based almost completely on a single tweet.

    The tweet had 20,000 backlinks.

I haven't looked in depth at that, but going to now. Would seem impossible for this site to go viral but I'm hopeful I'll find something to prove it's rank.

There's no doubt that a nofollow, 302 redirected tweet is responsible for #1 for a "high-competition" keyword because 20,000 crappy backlinks were sent to it.

Said it before, and will again. Social sharing on FB/Twitter doesn't rank sites. I've tried this to an outlandish degree... and provided no appreciable benefits to rank. Unless a fully controlled study, on a well established site mind you, shows differently... I will maintain this position.

Your 300 organic links.. what anchor text are you using? Won't you build any gray hat links to your site?

I have been experiencing the same thing as well.. I have almost 1K back links compared to my competitors' that only have 20 back links. They rank up and I stay at number 22.

I've done a lot of on-page SEO as well. But, nothing happens!

This thread is really old.. But nothing has changed so you're bump was still warranted. I don't understand it still, it's not my site or my links, for some reason those competitor sites for that one niche won't budge.. I know they can't be manually updated either, niche is way too small. Dunno, wish I could help it seems were both at a loss here.. Anyways, going to keep building links, adding content, etc until I can break through, will see what happens.
