If the term I want to rank for has a forum thread at #1 would it be better to just make an account and link my blog in the sig or should i just use anchor text within my post on the thread?

If possible is it always best to have your anchor text within your post.

If the forum allows links in posts I would do that. If not, then put the link in your sig.

But better to put the link in your signature as all of us accumulated in this forum with a view to make sig. Sometimes anchor text in post bother the readers and they can take steps by click on the "report" button as it's a kind of spamming.

If you sign up, go straight to this thread and put a link in, you will be reported as a spammer.

Sign up, make a few useful posts, including one in this thread. After you've made a few useful posts, add a signature. No one will think anything of it.

After the new algorithm update what i feel is, the link juice provided by forum has very little value. As for your question i would say on forum posts.
