A link is a link.. What's important are things like the relevance of the site, the anchor text, and pagerank on the referring page

A link is a link but I can promote the blog post with AMR blasts, Scrapebox blasts, etc.

Lets say the site is PR5, a bit outside of my niche but high traffic site.

True but the blogpost gets buried underneath posts and posts :p while the blogroll resides on the front page.

Blogroll from a .com.uk site directly related to my niche or a blogroll from a .com site not at all related to my niche.

Links coming from within the content as in the blog posts are much powerful than sitewide blogroll links. However, you also need to take into account the authority of the site from where you are getting the links.

I'd say go for the blogroll as well, chances are you'll get a link from a higher PR page then you would with the content link.

Sure contextual links are great to have, but I'll go for the chance of more PR passing along than not.

I usually avoid blogroll links as they seem unnatural. Just my opinion.
