For a Tech/Gaming authority review site which do you think is better to have within 1 year:

1000 articles of around 400 - 550 words with 1 - 3 images and a few links quickly written but good quality
100 articles of around 800 - 1000 words with 1 - 3 images and YouTube videos embedded and a few links fairly thought out
50 articles of around 1500 - 2000 words with a lot of images, links YouTube videos embedded and more with a lot of research.

    OR:

500 articles of around 800 - 1000 words with 1 - 3 images and YouTube videos embedded and a few links fairly thought out
200 articles of around 1500 - 2000 words with a lot of images, links YouTube videos embedded and more with a lot of research.

What do you think is best for me to do?

I think its less about length and more about consumable content people actually want to read. Catchy titles that make people want to click and articles that leave them satisfied or wanting to discuss what they just read/saw that lead to them sharing on social networks. Social traffic is faster and easier than SEO.

    What would you rather read:

    1. GTA V PC Review
    2. 10 Reasons Why GTA V on PC Blows Away Consoles

Whatever length well written compelling articles are left at is better than keyword driven forced length bs writing IMO.

I agree with this completely. If you are not going to have content that the reader wants to read, they will not come back. So it is best to engage them as best as you can.

making good reviews usually means making long articles. Also have in mind that the main method of promotion should be social media or other related sites. Google won't bring you much traffic in your case. Make sure that your titles are awesome and the reviews are helpful for your readers. Making or combining video reviews - presentations would be even better!

    Home Page:
100 articles of 800-1000 words is the good one. make the title of a content unique and deliver the descriptions clearly to readers with some infographics.

One more vote for 100x{800,1000}. People are ADHD and prefer shorter articles, but Google wouldn't like your 500-word articles as much.

I do 800-1000 on my sites (with a couple of 2000+ here and there) and I receive a good amount of traffic from long tails alone :)

What if I do a few hundred articles that are 400 - 500
    and then 100 - 200 articles that are 800 - 1000
and then a few with 2000+

Many sites rank this way, but Google might become nazi at one point, so 800-1000 is safer for me personally.

I've never seen an authority website which cared about the length of the articles. Real websites care about the quality of the information not word count.

Don't bother too much, just randomize, make it look natural instead of trying to make the search engine like your webpage.
