I completely understand how this question may sound newbie, but what exactly is a NATURAL link profile? I admit to telling people all the time that they want to keep the links looking natural to the eyes of big G, however I really do not know what this means. When I assume, I make an ass out of u and me. Would a link at the end of an article be considered natural? I do see this done all of the time on most major news sites.

Can I really go so far and call my link profile natural? What do you major SEO's think, and what would you say the definition would be? Maybe include an example, if possible?

What you are saying is equivalent to using Viagra (yo viagra is yo unnatural links), you are a big shot the first few hours, then after that you are penalized and your fake GF (yo serp is yo GF) leaves.

This is why one must take care of their unnatural shit, and keep churning their filthy sites so that they always have one on the top. Anyway, I would rather rank for a week or so, than pay thousands for "white hat" links which never actually rank my site and even if they did rank, you would never hit the top, as there is always going to be some spammer with a shit site at the top.

I understand the whole churning and burning tactic, because I am doing that myself. I just get a blogspot site, and spend $20 for GREAT crap SEO. The one that I posted above was my parents site, it is a business that I want to be high ranked for awhile.

Well I have had websites slapped with no links, so I really do not buy all the natural links shit. I think when the updates come along, your website is entered into a lottery and if you get picked you get picked. I know of pure spam sites in some niches which I work in, with barely any content, basically H1 tag with "keyword" and a load of banners, backlink profile of guest books and profile links. I have known sites like this which have ranked at no1 for the past year and half.

The only thing I would trust in putting a website to the top and keeping it there, is links from high authority sites.

Just a variety, that's all. I use (good) SAPE links often, and I always match their count with a few blog comments, a few guest posts, and a few 2.0's.

I would consider a truly natural link profile to be mostly naked and branded anchor text with lots of long tail anchor text and main keywords under a few % of your total link profile.

A lot of people get into black hat after their 100% "clean" websites get slapped. Then they realize that white hat is for adwords sales, not for quality. And THEN they start making money using real SEO.

Natural depends on so many things.

Natural in porn is video and image links from other sites. Natural in gaming is links from fan sites, natural in Pharma is links from forums, natural in news is links from blogs

Ok ALL THOSE are generalizations. None of the above is strictly true, but the principle is that every niche runs a little different.
As many have said here REAL natural is "build it and they will come"
in 99.9% of cases REAL natural does not work - at all - ever.

But there's a bit area next between engaging in conversations on niche sites and dropping the odd link - right up to buying Xrumer and link spamming the crap out of everything.

And neither of those are "wrong" - they are right in the right circumstances.
    Neither of them are natural
    Natural does not work
