If you were building a new site from scratch and wanted a bit of an edge what provides more of an edge: getting the exact EMD or an aged domain?

    Thx

I will definitely go with EMD over aged domain (if I am given only 1 choice)

EMD still holds some value and it will eventually get aged

So the age of the domain does not exactly matter because of the act that the EMD will age eventually anyway?

    Ok good looks guys.

Wonder how long till Google devalues EMD's also ha.

I disagree. I would definitely take an aged domain over an emd. An aged domain with a good reputation will always have an edge over sites being started now if done properly.

There was a trick but I don't know if it's still working, buying aged domain then redirect it to your EMD thus passing the age to your new domain

Keeping in mind that there's a million other variables we aren't considering here

It depends how fast you are trying to build up your new site. An emd may help your ranking, but backlinking the hell out of an aged domain will do the same. you decide which is more valuable to you. A lot of it will dependent on your seo strategy

The keyword i am targeting is full of domains that are over 10 years old. the EMD (i dont own it) is nowhere near the first page.

    for a domain

age can be achieved, but you can not change the domain name (unless 301 redirect a aged domain to a EMD...but that method might not work alway )

to utilize both power...go for EMD

These days I'd actually go for the aged domain. It's true that age can be gained, but to do that you have to wait, do you have a year? 2 years? 4 years? I'd just register the emd anyway but build the site on the aged domain. Then again, if the emd is available it's most likely an easy keyword anyway.

I'd say for MNS, go for an EMD if available, but if building an authority site, an aged domain is more helpful. The exact keyword is most crucial when it comes to the former, whereas credibility of the domain is more crucial when it comes to AS.

Other things equal I'd take the aged domain, but other things are never equal.

These are MNS sites. I will probably end up using EMD and if not then aged domains.
