The link towards your website from low PR sites or spam sites are known as Bad Links. But now you can remove these Spam bad links by submitting your website to Google Disavow.

A bad link is one that points to your profile from amw.com (Americas Most Wanted). :)

Seriously, I would consider bad links to come from those pages that are spammed to death with viagra, penis enlargement and other types of garbage links. Outside of that it's fair game.

bad pages that host tons of backlinks will soon be considered as spam hosts. Obviously every link dropped there will have an effect in your site, from No backlink value to even harm your site in the Serps, etc.

I recommend you join or even better start building your own Private blogs network, etc for long term success, etc

    Regards

    Mauri

If you're asking what does Google consider a bad link? Everything. And nothing. Well the best answer would be: no one knows... It can be anything really. Even the highest quality comment on a very legitimate site that you did for the right purposes (engaging in a conversation) can backfire. If Google wants to burn you, they will.
The only way to avoid: try to (only!) get high quality backlinks coming from authority sites. Don't screw around with social bookmark blasts and article directories, those days are long gone.

Yes spammy links are the problem most likely. I think just build more good links disavow the bad and start building quality content in your niche to get over any bad things that have happened to your blog or website. Keep building good links and you will rank in the search engines. Make sure to keep building links not to stop just because you are down on a few bad links.

You should follow Google Webmaster Tool, this way you would know exact problem. And when you have clear understanding of which links should be removed then you can use Disavow tool as well.
