What in the world are "fake" followers?

Does the increase in follower count correlate with actual accounts that have followed you? What are "fake followers"? How can companies that sell fake followers increase your follow count without having actual accounts follow you? Are they changing data values in Instagram's server?

All in all, I'm just confused about the concept of "fake followers". Can someone explain to me their take on what a "fake" follower is?

Not real followers? They are just mass produced accounts that won't contribute to your engagement at all, just inflate your follower count to attempt to draw in legit followers(you're more likely to follow a guy with 100k followers, than a guy with 100)

fake followers are used by many as bait. Sometimes known as seeding IMers use then to make their accounts appear more popular than they really are, thus resulting in others following.
It's like having two bars in the same street.
One has only a few in it and you are guaranteed to be served
The other is packed and you need to queue to get in
People will always want to try and get in the packed one because it seems more popular, it's a follow mentality.
It's the same with social media, who wants to follow an account that has 3 people, nobody.
So owners fake their followers to get the ball rolling, knowing that the fake ones will be removed over time, but real ones will join

A fake followers is someone that is not a human being.

A fake follower is created by a person, or persons, to look and act like a real human being. The fake followers will have a name and bio (sometimes you can quickly see that it's a fake name such as xlkdjwu alskjlas), have some photos and likes, and have followers and be following others.

So, what makes it different then a real human that has an account on Instagram? They will never buy or recommend your goods or account.

Real followers will interact more with you, and recommend you to others. For example, if you tell your followers to like a photo, follow another account, visit a website, or purchase a product, some will do it.

if you have any fake followers and try the above, nothing will happen. Now, you understand what fake followers do... NOTHING.

Now, there are some people, that want to have a vanity number in their accounts. For example, 100K followers, or 1M followers, etc. Fake followers can be purchased for that. Nothing else will happen.

Bots I think. They'll stay in your followers list but really won't give you any benefits. Just a display mate.

Lol I did this to get clients in real life who dont know this concept yet...but I wonder the people who say they supply real followers do they really provide real followers or just real looking bulk account follows...

I gave up on it myself as I kept having them removed, but I still get clients wanting instant social media

Fake and real followers both have their own purpose.
Fake followers make your account look more popular and many real users like pages only if the followers count is high so fake followers fulfill that purpose to make your page look more popular and if you are selling something without much follower count it's very hard to sell. Coming to the real followers, it make your page look popular but increase your user engagement as well so both fake and real followers have their own purpose.

It's just trial and error, some do, some sell untargeted so they drop quickly

There will be a increase in the followers count but it's completely useless. If you are dazzled on seeing the 16k or 20k followers.
Give it a shot. I took two offers to check them how it works.

Also when you have 100,000 fake followers and no engagement it looks odd, so you then have to pay for fake comments, likes etc. It can get expensive

I don't know how people can buy fake followers. It has absolutely no sense and if you are thinking about buying some I strongly recommend you to not do it.
Fake kill your engagement and your growth and get lower your chance to end in the popular page

But, I also have a few clients that want that vanity number. Hey, it's their dime!
