What if you could rank #1 for "real estate"? How would you monetize it?

I've been thinking lately that I gotta learn how to make money in internet. How stupid it is to rank for a product and monetize it with Adsense (that's what I try to do all the time)? If you rank for a product, you should sell people the product.

We should think more as businessmen.. the biz as a whole.

How would you make your website for "real estate" #1, but with no investment.. (if you are a millionaire it doesn't count.. =] )

i would go for CPA and adsense, it is the way to maximize the profit !

partner with estate agents on a rev share, sell estate agent listings as a directory, set up your own estate agents in a big city, sell the domain to a big estate agents, the list is endless and the internet doesn't revolve around adsense

I would sell advertising for a fortune.

One of the things that have been limiting me lately is the inability of developing a good website.
The only platform that I have some skills is WP and blogger.. basic html..

I don't know if learning drupal or anything like that could help.

definitely, drupal is a great cms and very customisable

I learned Joomla online in a couple of days (paid $50 for an online video training course) and have made 2 websites now....so easy to learn and my last website looks great! It's way better than two of my friends' websites who have paid "professionals" to do it for $3,000 and $4,500!!

It's not going to happen. Sorry. If you can out rank realtor.com and realestate.com then my hat is off to you.

But if I had that spot I would either sell ad space or sell the website to someone more ambitious than me.

but I think that selling ads is not the best way of monetize it.. I would more like danny goodamn said.. try to make my own agencies in the big cities..

I know it ain't gonna happen.. this idea came to my mind when I was making micro niche adsense sites and thinking "hell, if I can rank for a keyword that is made from people that wants to buy, why the hell Adsense? Why not stablishing a e-store"

because really, I think that we could make much more from our traffic than we do, sometimes.

Don't underestimate Wordpress, it can do wonders if used properly. Most of my sites are based on it and are super modified to suit my needs

Capture leads and sell them to RE firms, sell adspace. Place ads that Pay for impression, so that you monetize traffic whether they click an ad or not.

you coul just sell the site for millions

I would do both CPA and adsense trying to catch either or as both pay pretty good.

I am not sure if this is a hypothetical situation or if you are asking for real.

If you are ranked #1 for "real estate" and do not know how to monetize it, you probably will not get to that position to begin with.

Not being harsh, just stating the obvious.

Look at what the currently listed sites for that keyword are selling. They are selling real homes. I am sure the profit margins from selling real estate, the stuff that people are searching for, would be much greater than anything else.

In that case, you would contract with a real-estate company and get a massive cut of the sales leads generated, or even sales themselves. Of course you would need to figure out a way to track this yourself so you do not get your sales stolen.
