Incase you don't know in the previous update the big solution that came out was adjusting anchor texts, what if this update is targeting that.. whoever changed there anchor texts got the ban hammer.

    Just a thought.

Doubt that anchor adjustment is a cause for a hit. If it indeed is caused by anchor texts, then the update made them stricter again and people who have adjusted them and got hit have not adjusted them enough. Then again, I have no fuckin idea what this "update" even was about, so far I haven't had one reason to care.

It was just a shower thought but sort of made sense. They sent an update, people panicked mass changed there existing anchor texts or started diluting/disvowing them and suddenly Google has a list.

They take time analyze and give us "Fred".

Well, they do have some of the smartest people in the world on there payroll. Also Google is not us sitting in our rooms doing SEO. They have huge teams spread around the world. So resource heavy is not really an excuse for them?

I did this all the time, no effect on any of my keywords so far, infact i see little improvements. Ofcourse i did not change all anchors but maybe 1% anchors i adjusted from time to time.

If they wanted and were willing to dedicate the resources to hitting black hat sites, first thing they would do would be wiping out PBNs, which would be much easier than penalizing sites that changed their anchors. And also, more effective.

Then people who were penalized would have said they were changing anchors, but many white hat sites have been hit too so it doesn't make sense.

Google's algorithm is much more sophisticated than you think OP. Such methods would lead to alot of collateral damage.

People are panicking way too much on this fred issue. Personally I think well made pbns wont go anywhere, infact the sites I monitor all got a bump and they are all using a decent pbn network.

From the last 37 pages about this google update it is obvious who Google "targetted" : people who have no idea what they're doing.
