I was thinking about this today.

Since IP's are reassigned, What if a criminal (Spammer, hacker, etc) had your IP address before and the police hunts YOU down for having that IP address now?

Mh....That would be an interesting scenario.

Thoughts?

not if a hacker hacked your wifi :D lol. that would suck big time. try proving it wasn't you in that case.

There's too many IF's with the use of an IP.....I think if anything came about, there would have to be Other evidence, or even catching you red handed, for them to be able to do anything. Especially if your on a wireless home network, anyone can sit across your street with a decryptor and do there deeds, with out anyone else knowing better, hell sitting here at home, I can connect to both my neighbors Lans, they're both Unsecured.

There has to be other supporting evidence before the 5.0 can do anything, again there's to many "Doubts" and the Prostitutioner needs to be able to prove "Beyond a reasonable Doubt" you did whatever. just my oppinion.

Yeah--unfortunately the government is extremely stupid when it comes to technology laws. Even though an IP address is reassigned often, try explaining that point to law enforcement or a judge, haha. (Hell, try even explaining what an IP address it to them.)

They will most likely just be able to seize your equipment in a worst case scenario. In that case just hope you don't have anything illegal that would be caught in their search, even if you are innocent of what they are investigating.

Here is a better one for yall:

I stuff users with a cookie from a illegal porn site. The feds come in and find the computer with cookies. What do you think would happen?
