As I know a lot of people here in my country who are in agencies, I see they ALL have a weird profile leading them there, it's not often that you see people coming right from a business administration/marketing bachelor studies.

Is it possible that we are all coming into this field after we have felt misdirected in life. I was in psychology studies, then I worked in a non profit and finally at the age of almost 30 I am in digital marketing.

I see a lot of people having similar/non linear paths in digital marketing and strangely people who were in digital marketing at a very young age are not in it anymore at 30...

I know life sucks and we all struggle with choices at one point in life. Share your story, I might have generalised the topic and would like your story.

I personally don't know anyone who began digital marketing at 15 and was at 30 in this field, but I know a lot of people who began in their mid 25 and felt they found themselves in this field for the next 10 years at minimum... maybe a lot of you are in this case, feel free to tell your story and contradict me, I am interested about your path.

Well my life path was dificult as i study university of acountancy but i discovered that i dont like this field .Me i like the american dream where you travel around the world .when i discovered the income you can make online then i choose this field my final dream

Did you reach that point yet?

Eh, long story man.

But at the end of the day, offline you need a job, online you can create one.

Plus i havent set an alarm clock in 8 years. I let my body wake up when it decides. So even with my chain-smoking ill still outlive you all.

Thank you IM, thank you :D

I've used. to "play" with PTC sites back in 2009, i thought all of that was some tricks peoples works with to cheat the system and make money, my english didn't help as well, it wasn't until 2014 that i discovered this shit is a whole business and businesses, i was on my 1st year in university, a Finance degree, i believe anything business related would help you in your IM carrier, yet i dropped out, do i regret it ? never !

I'm 26 now, will i be in the game till 30's, you never know.

Started at ~16-17 promoting Digital River software I think and Clickbank. Now, mid 30's. Also, a school drop out here too. One of the best decisions of my life.

long story short, in 2005 i wanted to start a recordlabel with 15 (lol.) and i started to research about how to market music. thats how i found SEO/IM. then i thought, lets make some money first and then fund my music.
i'm 32 now. ran into tons of projects did all the ups and downs and with corona i came to realise that i wanted to do music in the first place. now i'm preparing for my exodus of IM and the genesis of my music career.
overall i'm glad i took that route as i couldn't imagine how my life went without those experiences.

Never too late!

Being an entrepreneur starts before online in my experience.

Besides selling lemonade on bike paths, I use to swim into the rivers/creeks/lakes with goggles beside the golf courses and collect golf balls to sell back to the golfers/club $1 per at 5 years old.

Fast forward...

I rebuilt my high school districts website at 14 years old, pitched IT about doing a website design course and taught that to my friends in grade 11.

Was building websites for local bakery, pizza shop, convience store, ect during high school just to get free shit as I didn't have alot growing up.

And thankfully I knew before leaving high school that any university degree at the time would be a waste of money and time as nothing was setup for internet marketing, only how to get a decent job at someone else's company.

Now over 15 years in IM, I have multiple businesses to diversify revenue streams, data SaaS, local seo, startup consulting, HR placement and few other fun projects.

That's true. My first entrepreneurial venture was selling weed. The rest was waiter, bartender, pizza delivery, and shit...

It's just, no matter how much you earn per hour and no matter how many hours per day you work, and no matter how many bonuses and tips you get, there's a cap to how much you can earn.

But selling weed, it's like, you can sell a gram you can sell an ounce you can sell a kilo you can sell 10 kilos you can sell 100 kilos and the sky is the limit. And you can (and better) stay in the shadows while doing it too.

This was a consequence of being an immigrant, always scared of police. I won't go sell lemonade on the beach, what if police/arrest/deportation of me and my parents. I was thrown into that immigrant thing by my parents when I was 9 years old so I sort of grew up with it, and I hated it!!! Stupid fucking bullshit!!!

But weed, like the internet that came later, you can do it with no fear and no permission needed, immigrant or not doesn't matter.

So anyway but weed and anything illegal carries certain risks with it, like prison. Working online can carry the same risks, depending on what you do and how you do it and all that, but you can also be legit, and still be able to sell a gram sell an ounce sell whatever and make as much or as little as possible regardless of how many hours you put into it. It's just a matter of how competent and hard working and intelligent you are, and maybe a bit of luck. You die on your own sword! I like that.

Started early and still here
I don't see myself outside of this world

I was 20. I do remember that much. Still in University but I was interested in Marketing and one thing led to another ... poof, I was introduced to SEO. Did some testing on my own, ranked some sites and got my first job in SEO maybe a year later.

We have the weed part in common too hah.

At the end of the day, people who use weed know it has a significantly positive impact on their lives for whatever purpose they see fit. So it's actually a really good industry to be in as you are helping people more than you know.

Some of you guys really scares the shit out of me
Discovered IM a year ago at the beginning I taught it was just easy to make money then as I went through different forms and posts I understood and said to myself "These guys are hard working mfs " and now I am just following my own path and process working on myself and constantly learning
I believe IM is a way of self improving myself everyday
Rn I am 22 and see myself in this shit till my 30's so thank you guys and have a nice day

Yeah I guess. I never considered it as doing anything wrong. The governments just have to make everything illegal so they can fuck with anyone at any time.

At the end of the day, I recommend everyone going in a reputed digital marketing agency in your country if you want to become amazing at it...

Some guys working there are paid far more with bonuses than they would with their own projects. 10k-15k is extremely hard to do alone.

I learned more about google ads/gtm and automatiom there than I learned by myself. I trust the team work as being highly beneficial and a must have if you want to improve fast.

Even keyword research on excel for regrouping campaigns and ad groups was something I realised I was shitty at before I went in an agency 4 years ago.

Good luck with your journeys guys and don't believe the solopreneur route as a get rich quick thing. It will take you years of hard work contrary to some claims you hear around here.

I was never interested in marketing that too digitally. In my view, it wasn't fascinating, or maybe I didn't possess the ability to convince people through marketing, but I liked to scroll through different social media pages, especially memes. Memes always catch my attention, and I found many people earn enough by creating whatever they want. Now, that fascinated me! Well, memes are just a small part of digital marketing.
It's an extended term and a never-ending experience. You can say I am a wannabe digital marketer. I am still learning and exploring.

We are all learning every day in this field, it's interesting and also frustrating.

I'm one of those cats who started with IM in their early teens. 13 precisely. Coding software to sell dating/webcam sites... it was so easy back then!

Aside from the money, what attracted me to it was the limitless "blank piece of paper" aspect of it and the automation. The engineering. I'm a nerd.

You are only limited by your imagination in this game. You come up with an idea, then you sort out how to implement it. From there you open a blank project. You toil away writing code, building a website, crafting this thing up like a potter on a wheel. Finally you're ready.

You've created something from nothing. But will it work? Who knows, that's part of the allure! Not every venture is a hit, but from each failure you learn. You move forward.

Cheers Willy. You're funny and do post some thought-provoking threads! May your conversion rates be as high as a giraffe's ass
