what happens if you try to rank 100% duplicate content?

Page just won't rank or it can rank, but eventually will receive penalty?

Webmasters are confused about penalties for duplicate content, which is a natural part of the web landscape, because Google claims there is NO duplicate content penalty, yet rankings can be impacted negatively, apparently, by what looks like, duplicate content problems.
The reality in 2016 is that if Google classifies your duplicate content as THIN content, or BOILER-PLATE content, then you DO have a very serious problem that violates Google's website performance recommendations and this ‘violation' will need ‘cleaned' up.

    Hi,
Google will mostly track you if you use 100% duplicate contents for your article and will not be ranked accordingly.

Well you wouldnt have anything to worry about, because the penalty is only for organic rankings.

News sites have duplicate content up all the time and they do fine. Curation sites as well. The thing is, you don't want your whole site looking like it's only made to fool Google. You can have some duplicate content, but it needs to add some value. Otherwise, why rank your site when there's a more trusted source saying the same thing?

Google claims it's not a penalty but a filter. There is no point in showing two exact same pages in the search results. Instead they will show only on of theses exact same pages and this will be the one they consider the original or best piece.

So you can rank, but you need to do better than the sites you are duplicating. If you are doing better, then why do you need their content?
