Last year i scraped a bundle of photo profile pics using that new facebook search that meant you could type in something like "girls who are models from russia" and loads of good results came up,

now that feature doesn't seem to work, or i am going to the wrong page or something, or is there an alternative way to search, i need to get some profile pics of the opposite sex to avoid sexism.

    Cheers

It's gone, but you can use Google with "site:facebook.com" included to search such things.

Question: Any idea why would facebook do such thing? The old facebook search in the past was really convenient.

Anyways, thanks for the useful intel guys. It's useful for me.

One reason is because a lot of people abused the facebook open graph search by using automated tools to scrape the results.

Thanks, I was looking for this as well

I read that the "old" search was part of a partnership with bing, wich they dropped not long after claiming they want to "focus on searches within the social network rather than web search results"

But I would agree too that its probably to slow down spamming.

I believe there is still the "graph search API" for developers where you can code an app with similar queries.

Thanks Paper-Boy and Alcide. Based on your answers it seemed like Facebook decided to change their search in order to improve their social media search and improve user experience. And at the same time, it is meant to prevent abuse. Well... it is not a bad thing I guess.
