    Hi,

One of my sites was receiving a decent level of traffic per day (around 600-800 uniques per day) however this suddenly dropped off and I'm back down to 200-300 per day. My earnings have too taken a drop.

The site in question was originally a 30 page content site which I then converted into an autoblog. I've just done a site search and according to Google I have 7720 pages indexed (I checked this with a site:www . mydomain . c0m search before I started this post).

I'm ranked 1st for my main keyword and still am however my rankings have dropped across the other keywords I was targeting.

Recently I have been using AMR & Scrapebox to blast my site URLs and my already exsistent backlinks.

I've also checked inside my Google Analytics account and I can see that the sudden drop in traffic happened on the 27th January and has remained at this level since then. Here's a picture of the drop below:

Can anyone tell me what they think might have happened or give me any advice on how to fix this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Stu.

It's almost impossible to say with the information you've provided.

    1) Did the traffic drop off right after the conversion?
    2) Did you 301 redirect all the old pages to the new pages?
    3) Have you added a lot of new / scraped content?
    4) Have you added any outbound links?
    5) Are you paying for inbound links?
    6) Have you changed anything On page SEO wise
    7) Have you added any new plugins?
    8) Have you checked Webmaster Tools for Malware / Crawl errors / On Page errors?
    9) What was the keywords ranking vs where they are now?

Appreciated, I wasn't sure what info TO provide...

    1) No, it was a site I built following the 30 Day Challenge from 2009. I deleted all the 30DC content and rebuilt the site from scratch in March 2010. I converted it to an autoblog in July 2010.
    2) No 301's I added new content to the old URL's essentially recycling them.
    3) Autoblog so yes, this is the only content been added to the site now: Google News RSS feed, Amazon products, Youtube vids and articles from Articlesbase via WPRobot
    4) A couple of outbound links: 1 to a Wikipedia page and 1 to an eHow page (the eHow page is mine and has a link back to the site). I also added a few of anchor text links back to my homepage - these are in the sidebar of the site so show up on every page. All these links have been there for 3+ Months.
    5) No, however I did order an Xrumer blast from here around October last Year which actually gave me a boost for the targeted keywords.
    6) I did a while back with the SEOpressor plugin which was the most major change I'd made as this decorated my entire site with bold, italic and underlined keywords on every post/ page.
    7) No new plugins since before November last Year except for some Xmas themed plugin I added over Xmas to give the falling snow effect to my blog. I disabled this plugin before New Year.
    8) No I haven't, I don't know/not sure how to.
    9) According to Market Samurai a lot of what were 1st page ranks have been moved to a variety from 2nd page to outside the top 1000 results. However I'm still 1st for my main keyword.

    3) How much scraped content vs unique?
    4) Outbound links not a problem then
    5) I can't see how the Xrumer blast would have hurt
    6) Not sure about this one but you never know
    7) Can't see why this would hurt but don't know
    8) Have you submitted your site to Webmaster Tools?
    9) Dropping to 2nd page isn't so bad but dissapearing is odd. The ones that have dissapeared how long have they been missing?
    10) The pages that dropped in rankings the most were they Autoposts or unique?
    11) Do you have some sort of crawling problem / internal linking problem - can the dropped pages still be crawled?
    12) Have you been messing with robots.txt?

The only thing I would say is don't do any sort of knee jerk reaction / fixing as it could make it worse. I would add some unique content and slow down the Autoposting for a while and try and get some quality links to some of the pages that dropped off that were getting the most traffic.

I don't know but it could also be something to do with Googles algo changes on Autoblog / scraped content but obviously only they know for sure.
Please bear in mind all the above is only my opinion and I may be wrong :)

    3) Since I changed to an autoblog its was 100% scraped
    4) Not sure, I also have a plugin which adds the rel=nofollow tag to links in the posts
    5) Me neither
    6) ...
    7) ...
    8) Did after your last post and no issues under the diagnostics section
    9) Not sure exactly but I haven't ran Market Samurai as often to keep an close check on it. I've only noticed the sudden drop in traffic
    10) were not ato posts as I haven't been tracking these
    11) Not sure webmaster tools is reporting no errors across the site
    12) No

I wasn't planning on making any major changes just yet as the google algo change has just happened... Right? And I've been building links so I'm hoping its a G-dance.

If you've just started the SB blasts, couldn't this be simply the Google dance for the inner pages? Just a hunch.

Apart from normal link building and cutting back on the spam the other things I'd check is how many of your pages are actually indexed. If you have SB you can use the xml site extractor, grab the links and do an indexed check. Note the number and check weekly to see if they drop / rise.

Also could it be a seasonal thing within your niche?

Without seeing your site it's difficult to guess what's going on but I wish you lots of luck.

I thought about the seasonal thing and keywords been searched for less at this time of year however Market Samurai's info has thrown me more in the direcetion that I've been hit by the Algo change.

According to webmaster I have over 4900 pages indexed, I have a similar amount of posts showing on my wordpress dashboard.
When I do a site:wwwdotmydomaindotc0m search in Google the number listed is over 7700.

I hope I am dancing from the recent link building I've been doing however my site has moved more than usual, maybe a combo of both dance and algo change could be at work...

You may be right the usual injecting some decent quality backlinks into the site and adding more unique content couldn't hurt either.
