What good is a social backlink as far as SERPS go?

    How much help does a social back-link give? I dont mean like abusing the system and making mass profiles...I mean like legit Twitter and Facebook shares.

    I think it is a good part of the more "holsitic" approach to SEO that Google wants to see...

    It doesnt do very good in ranking, but social links are good for indexing new content.

    most of the social sites are no follow such as twitter...
