    Before I begin:

:) THIS IS NOT A SALES THREAD! :)

Not trying to sell anything in this particular thread. Just looking for some original ideas for wordpress add-ons that would sell like hotcakes. Looking for requests yes, but I put it into the moneymaking section for a few reasons.

    1. NOT TAKING ON ANY PRIVATE PROJECTS! I want to make sure I'm capable of building the thing completely before I promise anyone anything.
    2. I want the NEWBIES to see this. This is usually the first stop they make in BHW
    3. It will develop quicker
    4. It is a money-making strategy, and kind of an experiment for the need of this type of thing. For me, I could sell licenses/downloads (in the marketplace of course) for $5 a pop, and newbies saying "hey, I know some PHP too!", they can see what kind of success or failure this turns out to be. You never really see the value of creative programming on the IM sites (I wouldn't count WF), and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious.

Never really got into the whole Wordpress/blogging thing seriously from an SEO standpoint, so I don't really know what's missing from what looks to me like a complete library of WordPress add-ons. I had a really good turnout for the last PHP project I took on a few months ago, though I kind of abandoned it because I wasn't sure about the whole idea in general (remember the 100 backlinks/identi.ca thread [whitehat section]?). The program DID work though. Sold it for $50.

So I need your guys' help coming up with some ideas for some wordpress addons that YOU WISH YOU HAD. Even if it sounds ridiculous (to a point, I'm no magician), I want to know anyway. Maybe it'l stem a good idea.

BTW: Looking for something that would be worth paying a decent amount of money for. Planning on selling it for $5, and I'd like people to think that they're getting an awesome deal rather than getting ripped off.

    SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

There are plenty of plug-ins that haven't been updated for a while/have been abandoned and aren't compatible with newer versions of WP. For example: good CSV importers that can take a CSV file and turn it into blog posts/pages, content lockers for selected sections of a site that only require a log in or registration, more front page log in plug-ins that incorporate open ID sites, twitter, facebook, etc.

If you take into account that many of the plug-ins out there don't work with WP 3, you'll have plenty of ideas that people will want to buy.

Really? The CSV poster sounds like it should already be over-saturated. But it'd be real simple to do if it wasn't.

Compatibility is a big problem too, I've seen it myself especially with the autobloggers. People favor a certain one, Wordpress updates, and it no longer works. Perhaps I'll try & clone an older one. I think retro-fitting for profit would be a copyright issue.

Thanks for that. Good starting point. Anyone else feel free to respond with ideas.

Actually, it's not saturated at all. There are only a couple of CSV plug-ins available and most haven't been updated in several months and only work for very old WP versions. For WP 3 there is only one CSV plug-in and it has a lot of errors. If you look into it and make one, it could be great.

So a 20 minute brainstorm resulted with this for a CSV importer:

To be honest, I never really dealt with a CSV importer (no reason to), but I think I have a general idea of what it's supposed to do. They do seem kinda simple (non-featurerich) compared to the above: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/csv-importer/
