When my family and friends ask me so you been lookin for a job lately? or have you found a job yet? Where ya workin at? ... ya that kinda shit.

I tell them no I have just been doing some web design and making ok with that ill even show them some of my work and kinda explain myself.. And they just have this look that I cant really explain.

Its like they don't believe me. Or that im up to something illegal. Like my mom she is always on my butt about getting a job.. and im like why the fuck would I get a job so I can make way less than what im making now.. (ofcourse im just thinking this I wouldnt say to my mom)

So I explain to my mom probably 3 or 4 times what im doing and she still just don't get it, or just dont beleive me.

Like people do not respect me for how I make a living. They don't understand that ive been studying my ass off for the past 6 years on this shit and its finally paying off.

Some people really do respect my work but its those that dont that just piss me off.

Whats the deal with these people!

Guess some people think that you have to bust your ass to make a living and don't think shit like this is possible. Just like my parents until i layed a fat ass check from one of my cpa companies in my dads hand then cashed it, that made him a believer :p. As far as giving a flying fuck if anyone respects or understands what you do though, just don't give a shit what they think because that doesn't make $$$ appear in your bank account. So basically what im saying is if they have a problem with what your doing, then tell them they can go fuck themselves.

i dont make quite enough so i kinda expect the bitching, but if your making decent income, more so then at a typical job, then I see no reason why they should be.

Of course they still always think you can never be busy working from home and are just fucking around being lazy all day.

"evilman11", already said what I wanted to say over here.

Trust me, all it takes is a "fat check" to throw on the tables to make your parents believe that IM is the way to go. When they see the cash pouring in, they won't dare to ask you any questions. Until then, NO AMOUNT of convincing will help!

Yes, if you make great money, spend on cars and whatever luxury you like, that will take care of your relatives and friends as well. When it comes to IM, I would like to be a little selfish over here...I need a life at the end of the day so although they are my near and dear ones, I won't care much about what they have to say(actually, they know nothing, right?).... After all, I don't want to die poor...PERIOD.

Same here... I don't make that much, but its better than working at McDonald's or any other job that pays min wage. My parents are still telling me to get a job and stop being a lazy bum even though I earn enough to pay for school and even save some $ up.

Maybe you should say that to your mom.

With my friends I like to be shifty about it. I don't like talking about work but they all know what I do. Some ask how its going but mostly its like "you never work but you always say you have to work"

    I like that

As for parents, my mom asked me one time if I was scamming people. I told her if I was I would have a lot more money than I do now. I showed my parents my products and they were impressed. Dad is a business man himself and knows it took some time to get launched, when it did, he wasn't surprised.

Haters will hate but most of all, you are ahead of the game. The net has been public for 15 years!!! Thats it! We are the ones who can choose to be ahead or behind the curve. 20 years from now it will be much different and IM will be very very very widely accepted....ok, make that like 4 years.

I agree with some of the responses. When you start making a lot of money, everybody will shut up and pay respect :D
I was hard in the beginning to see everybody mocking you and judging you but later they will shut up.
Be patient and stay focused dude.

For all of the noobs out there that doesn't have a income and want to get into IM, get a job! It costs money to make money and if you are trying to make something out of nothing then you are making your own product to sell. If you want to join a CPA network, you need some start up money because your parents aren't going to give you much, if any at all. Find a 20 hours PT job and invest the income until you make as much as the PT job, then quit the job. It's no fun starting w/o any money and you will mostly get discouraged and pull your hair out. What I like about IM and being a software vendor/programmer is I work for no body, I wake up and enjoy life because I have no boss or anyone telling me what I should do or when I should do it. I'd suggest a PT job in sales; telemarketing, door-to-door ect.. It will help build a foundation to IM.

Trust me, it doesn't matter if you're in your teens, 20's or if you're my age: 53. People will ask. And it doestn' get any easier at my age. If my wife and I go to a social function, say from her job, inevitably someone will say to me, "What type of work do you do"? Depending on my mood, I might say, "As little as possible" or I might say I'm semi retired or I might say, "the internet's been good to me". Usually I just say I run a network of websites and I generate income from ads that are placed on them. That's pretty much what I tell my family as well.
