Although I've been in the industry for over 5 years, SEO was never really my thing but now I'm looking to do some investments in SEO + niche sites. The problem is, my only major attempt at SEO was over a year ago and it was using Micro Niche Finder. I just looked at "green" keywords labelled with low SOC score and I had a moderate success with a campaign running this way.

A tool like Ultimate Niche Finder was incredibly awesome to find tons of keywords, however when it comes to competition analysis, it does become sort of inaccurate.

So my question is simple: Which keyword tool told you a keyword was easy and it was easy indeed? And perhaps told you one was hard and you also found it "hard"? Which do you get the least inaccuracies/inconsistencies with?

Also with keyword competition analysis tools a lot are unable to work with bulk keywords or are too slow. Whether it is one software or a combination, what do you use and recommend?

    Thanks :)

Yeah but how accurate can you get with "manual" and which factors do you consider?

I personally use Market Samurai for judging the competition. It works pretty good and shows you all the data. If you want to do it manually there is SEOQuake plugin for the same but then you will need to know the requirements to select a good keyword so Market Samurai FTW!!

Stealth Keyword Competition Analyzer / Traffic Travis / Market Samurai

I usually use all 3 in that order. After setting my criteria and such in google kw tool, I check for "Great and Amazing" KWs using SKCA, after that I run the those in TT to check further analysis of 10 results then i use Market Samurai to look at each site in the top10.

SEO spyglass. Ahrefs. Magestic SEO, and I footprint the site and search for whatever backlinks they have. I get my long tail and most of my keywords from Ultimate Niche Finder.

I use ultimate niche finder for a quick analysis, then manually and majestic. What's the advantage of long tail pro over unf?

Do you think competition should be judged by how hard it is to get on the first page? Or how hard it is to get in the top three? It's significantly different in terms of CTR.

I do most of my keyword research manually with the Adwords Keyword Tool, SEO Quake, and Ahrefs as my primary resources for doing it. Personally, I like to have an idea of competition for 3 phases. First, I want to see how hard it will be to get in the top 10 - ultimately nothing below that really matters. Top 10 still doesn't count for much, but at least you'll be seeing some clicks at that point. I also want to know how hard it will be to get in the top 3-5. Once I'm on the first page, how hard will it be for me to move to the top half of the page? And finally, how hard will it be to knock of #1 - ultimately, that is the end goal for any keyword.

Really #1 is the most important to me, but even if #1 has a great link profile and solid on-page SEO, seeing weak spots below it lets me know I can move in and be getting some traffic while working my way to the top.

I use a combination of Google Adwords Tool and manual Google checking, you can see the keywords and how well optimised each competing website is!
