I know that some people use stand alone software like hootsuite or Tweetdeck, some use RSS alerts, and others use social media services such as H**spot, etc... If you use one of these options, please tell us what is is and why.

Others use in house or in the cloud solutions based on tools with a set of collection, storage, analysis, ad possibly even enhancing and publishing capabilities.

It doesn't matter what route you take, Share it here and give a few pluses and minuses.

    I am currently looking at a Infinit.e , + MongoDB, +Drupal, & CiviCRM, + Hadoop etc... for scaling setup.

Please chime in if you are (or have) built your own social listening setup, even more so if you found any interesting (and cost avoiding) ways to scale up to the largest need possible in the smallest footprint increase with each scale unit. (Unstructured data storage in free access containers comes to mind).

The advantages of what I am looking at is the freedom flexibility I have with using unstructured data and moving away from SQL to take advantage of this. While it is true that many feel that not using a Relational DB is actually a problem in content sites, I think it is more the CMS lacking focus and not the DB (yeah, bad pun). I do not think it would mesh well with WP or Joomla but Drupal seems to be taking that direction in the enterprise and especially with Symphony2 collaboration (or co-opting if you see it that way) in 8, data flexibility in dev and design thinking seems to be creeping into the CMS world.
