I have ready made websites for every kind of small business like painters, roofers, resturants etc etc and was thinking id give them away to small business owners in exchange for signing up to my newsletter and for them signing up to my recommended hosting provider.

My thinking is that I earn money from the hosting provider as an affilate and that by them signing up for my newsletter they get marketing tips each week with of course links to my various services. I`m thinking that the business owners may want to change images, and other content on the free site so they might pay me to change this for them as well.

I`m going to use email, signs, door to door , cold calling, classified postings, and facebook group postings.

Ok so please tell me what i should be doing to make this idea work or if it is not a good idea and just keep charging people to build the sites instead?

The biggest pain in the arse is the guy who pays you peanuts, you will hear less from the £100k a year client than the £100 a year one.

Not to dissuade you in any way but just to make sure that you have to stress to you free site recipients that the site is a standard 1 size fits all and that they cannot have 5 changes a week made to the site, because otherwise it will become a nightmare.

Yes that is exactly what I was going to do was to make sure they know that changes cost $20-$40 per hour that way they either pay me good to make the changes as an upsell.

It will work. Make them pay for the hosting where you get a huge commission (I think HostGator still provide good affiliate programs)
Once the site is up and running, make sure they know that the website came free, but its not the case for support / modification / updates.

Or rather you could try making the website for them in advance show them the website that you've made and tell them how much you charge for it. People like paying for what's already in front of them instead of things that requires time making. You could also alternatively charge them on a monthly, yearly basis for the website as a maintenence fee to keep the profits higher.

Well, have you considered how much money would you earn per signup?

If you think you can get a lot of affiliates, then go for it. I wish you all the best!
