I've got a high traffic content site that I've just started running targeted banner ads (for affiliate products) on. The ads I'm using are 300px by 250px rather than the old 468x60's that everyone ignores. I'm running these in addition to AdSense ads, I actually just added my graphic ads below the AdSense ads block on my pages. Anyway, after the first week of having them on my pages now I've noticed 2 things. First, my AdSense clicks and earnings have remained steady. I thought there might be a drop, but that hasn't been the case so far. And second, my CTR for my banner ads is a 1.08% for the past 7 days, with every single day being above 1.0% I did some research on banner ads before doing this and most large market studies I found quoted average CTR's for 300x250 ads to be around 0.35% to 0.40% So my question is were those studies all skewed because the sites being studied were setup by idiots (LOL) who don't understand positioning for clicks, or am I just seeing higher clicks because the ads are new on my pages and I should expect the CTR to drop as people get used to seeing them there? Do you run your own banners on your sites like this, and if so what kind of CTR's do you average?
