So, what are your thoughts about this new game called RIFT?
    Code:
    http://www.riftgame.com/en/
I'm thinking about getting it, but wanted to know if anyone here has played it yet and what their thoughts were on the game-play, graphics, etc.

Is it just another EQ/WoW RPG game? Is it better to get in now and create a guide on how to play the game and sell that guide on Clickbank?

    Thoughts?

At this point, it could go either way. I will say this : Rift is FUN. It's a different type of game than WoW, as capitalized in their marketing, although at first glance it shares A LOT of GUI features. When I first started playing, it turned me off as some parts is literally a clone of WoW. Fortuantly, that's where the similarities stop.

I don't think that Rift will draw a lot of people away from WoW because an entirely different type of gamer will play this game as opposed to WoW. Rift is very chaotic and throws you in the deep end pretty much from the start. In WoW, it's all about endgame content--90% of the fun stuff comes at the end of the game. In Rift, you will get thrown into raid-like situations from level 10+. You will also get killed. A lot. I don't think a lot of WoW players will appreciate the chaos when they are so used to "babysteps". The WoW fanbase is largely very casual gamers.

The visuals in the game is good--environment and player customization looks nice. The customization armor-wise is awful. Right now, the sets are very dull and you spend most of the game looking pretty much the same as everyone else in your class. It's not good for players that like to add a unique flair to their character. PvP is very unbalanced and there is a lot of ganking on PvP servers. Characters in general are unbalanced--this can be fixed, hopefully, with time as it just launched.

Rift is a very different type of game and yet it has all the MMORPG elements that you would expect. It gives you the WoW raid experience from an extremely early level and that's something you don't see very often. I would probably say it's one of the more fun MMORPGs I've played, but I'm not sure if it's going to appeal to everyone. Right now there isn't a whole lot of players. I think it will be MUCH more successful than Aion and Final Fantasy 14. It will draw people that want an experience *different* than WoW, not people who enjoy WoW and want to branch out. It will be much easier to tell how successful it will be when we see how developers respond to user feedback.

Hope this helps  I'm in the gaming niche too and I picked it up thinking about the same thing.

Thanks for your review. Looks like I'm going to have to download a copy myself and try it out. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I've been thinkin of getting into a new game as WoW has grown kinda dull to me. Even with the new xpac just being released, I can't really get into it anymore.

@ Moko: I know you said the PVP is imbalanced right now in Rift, but overall, how fun is the PVP and how does it work? Are there battlegrounds similar to how WoW is, or is it all world PVP, or what?

The only thing I really enjoy in WoW is PVP so if Rift has a cool PVP system, I'll be more inclined to play it.

Let me know your thoughts on it so far.

I had a beta key but gave it away since I've lost my passion for long-term gaming since Diablo II LoD. :T

Rift is hard to comment on too harshly because it's a brand new game. Trion is doing a lot to improve the kinks that it released with. Right now, there's LONG queues for warfronts (WoW battlegrounds) on some servers and there's not as much endgame content as you find in WoW.

The PvP in this game comes in a lot of flavors. First off, PvP is a big excitement factor in WoW (pretty much the only excitement factor in a lot of ways), and Rift fills this void primarily with the Rifts themselves. At any time, anywhere, there is massive invasions including raid bosses that just literally drop out of the sky onto your lap. It can happen in town, it can happen in the field, and it can happen while you're trying to PvP someone. I don't know if you're an old-school WoW player, but it's kind've like when players used to lure raid bosses into town and watch them mass slaughter everything in their path. This adds a huge excitement factor to the game and keeps it very interesting. Even though it's not battlegrounds, it feels like battlegrounds because you're scrambling around in utter chaos trying to fight back against a sudden army dropped on your head.

PvP matches happen a lot at rifts because players want to kill the boss for the items or exp rewards! This makes things even more fun and chaotic as you're fighting players and the monsters at once. It can also make you rage as you can become hopelessly overwhelmed pretty quickly.

There are different types of servers, but it's not really worth it to play on anything but PvP to me so I haven't tried the others.

PvP is a world flag, and right now it isn't that balanced. There's good classes, and there's bad classes--like WoW, except a little bit less balanced. They are taking suggestions to fix this and they are considering the community's input, so I think it will get better with age. Right now, Warriors are the worst PvP class but that's no real surprise as they always get shafted first in games.

Rift is TINY world-wise compared to WoW, but thereagain, it's also a very new game. They are discussing and planning on adding a lot of great content to the game for latter levels to enjoy but if you hit level 50 tomorrow, you probably wouldn't have a lot of stuff to do. Most players are leisurely leveling and enjoying the PvP/rift gameplay instead of rushing to the top right now for that reason.

All in all, I would say that if you are bored with how WoW plays, I would give it a go because it is nothing if not spontaneous and exciting. If it continues to have good support, it could develop into something pretty epic. As it is, it's still pretty epic! Hope it helps

Thanks for the info and your review. I was just watching some videos and reading up on it more and this game does look really cool. I started playing WoW when it was first released, and while it is definitely the most fun game I've ever played, I'm just so bored with it at this point. I think it's time for a change.

I don't expect Rift to be perfect right now since it was just released a few weeks ago. I'm sure they will be fixing all the little bugs and adding more content as they get more feedback from the gamers. Even so, it still looks like a sick game and should only get better with time.

I'm gonna buy it tomorrow and start playin and I'll post a short review here myself once I get some experience with the game. If it's as good as it looks in the videos, I'm sure I'll be happy with it. I'm really looking forward to the Warfronts and the world PVP stuff.
