Best selling protein is Whey 100% Gold Standard by Optimum Nutrition. Alibaba does not carry that. They only make chinese protein with custom logos.

Can you find premium brands on alibaba for a cheap price? Give it a try, buy a low volume first and if there is enough demand scale it up.

As a protein user myself, I'd never buy a non-branded generic protein. I doubt this method would work in the US given that people rather throw extra money and go for the best products with better reviews. Maybe in Europe where they're more skeptical and worse economy it could work.

I purchase items through Alibaba and Aliexpress all the time for sale on eBay, Amazon, and my own eCommerce websites. The key to selling any product is to 1st build trust to help improve your conversions. If you have an eBay account with a high feedback rating, this will help get you those sales. Also, when selling on Amazon, you will want to make sure that your product has a number of 4 and 5 star reviews. There tends to be a fair amount of competition on these sites so it helps if you have your own brand. It is fairly easy to purchase products and have them packaged up with your own logo and product labels. This type of branding helps build trust and will also help you to outsell your competition for similar products.

I would highly recommend that you email your supplier and ask for any samples they may have or even just purchase some of the protein powder. After you get your 'samples' and everything checks out, start selling. With a lot of goods from overseas, there is also a lot of competition in manufacturing as well as variance in quality. It helps to locate purchasing agents in China that can check out goods from all of these suppliers for you. This will save you the time and money of having to wait for your products to get here so that you can check them out yourself.

Don't forget about import/export rules, regulations, laws, processes etc.

There are so many gold and "checked" suppliers that it isn't really a trust factor anymore (corruption isn't uncommon either). I personally would never buy any powder or chemical from there unless it is tested in a lab before you repackage and sell. Asia isn't really known for delivering what they advertise, you never know what kind of crap they dilute their products with.

Isn't the profit margin on whey powder pretty shit anyway? Around here (Sweden) protein powder is very cheap. Import regulations around food can surely be a hassle aswell.

But the core idea of ordering in bulk and reselling on markets is pretty much the standard practice of reselling. Obviously works if you can reach customers and keep a profit margin.

Instead of maintaining an inventory, why dont you dropship instead?
Alibaba has this feature you know.
You can even create your own e-commerce site that connects directly to alibaba.

It's just so easy to get scammed -of course you can say that about anything, but with dropshipping and no actual prior experience dealing with a specific vendor, it's just dangerous as hell. Sure they send you a couple samples to bait you.

Look for a person you know that has actually dealt with legit dropshippers, I just see SO much crap go down the toilet and people getting ripped off because the dropshipping industry is mingled and aspired with the mindset of people willing to fraud and fake products.

    This is also true.

But the idea is: Instead of maintaining inventory, do DropShipping.
But then again... finding legit dropshippes is really painstaking work.

They can brand it for him. It's not like the protein powder in the stores aren't made in shitty asian countries anyway, just on order of big companies instead of a lonely BHW'ers.

You have to be very careful if you want to do this. First you need to be sure it will sell and the price is profitable. I bought a bulk of items to sell on eBay, I was earning $2-$3 por item, I quit because I was spending too much time and earning maybe $6 an hour.

And what would you say is the best to spend the time and money to brand?

Sex toys on Alibaba have absolute insane margins, but it seems like it'd be a hassle to organise. From what I've seen, I would also need to order 100+ of each product I would want in my catalog. I would go into dropshipping sex toys, but the margins don't compare (and I would just be selling some cheap Chinese shit disguised with a $50 price tag).

Any product that you can easily quality check and with anough margin worth the effort. Protein powder would only make sense to me if you were gonna buy in a couple tonnes and create a brand, packaging and distribute. All niches have products worth customizing and branding, go for one that interests you and go all out.

That is the problem with dropshipping, it is rarely at wholesale prices. You gotta choose, invest money in bulk or have small margins with dropshipping. Risk vs reward.

You can always negotiate deals though, but for branding/private label the MOQ is obviously higher.

You would be much better off making your own brand. But IMO, you would also be better off picking another item. The food category could get you in legal trouble if the product is not as advertised/dangerous. As you are buying off an alibaba user in China, which is not known for strict food regulations, this could be a legitimate concern.
