Recently, more and more people have been asking me, what do i do, etc and since my partner (I taught him a lesson) was blabbing how much % i was giving him in terms of income etc. I've been 'a bit' under the spotlight in terms of income and business and yes, i've always keep mum. I just treat my friends and family to food, drinks and household expenses. but more than that, I live a modest life.

I think my problem is more on the side of, 'how good can you stand it?'

I don't drive at the moment even if i used to, coz i'm lazy, I commute, take the jeep, tricycle, what not and ask my friends to pick me up and drop me home whenever needed (party, nightout etc).

It seems that i keep hiding under the shadows and mind you i'm not making 'good money' in my opinion, just steady five figs and i've avoided all the questions at all costs and i was just wondering what do you say? Or do to avoid this?

Man it's not a giant problem it's more like, what do i say, especially when you're so excited on how easy it is to make good cash?

On a sidenote... darn i'm glad i'm off to a new country soon, to avoid any heat from people. :D

    sorry for the rant,

    catz

I am just vague about it. "I have a side business doing internet marketing" and then yes, change the subject. If they press and press and press, I can always get them in one of my affiliate programs and make an over-ride :)

Haha yeah it is always hard relating to these people. They just don't get it. And for some who are making their entire living from the internet it is even harder to explain. People just can't wrap their heads around it.

So with immediate family you can tell them anything you want.

With friends I am very vague and usually change the subject or just answer in the simplest way possible without divulging anything. It is just better that way.

Yeah, seriously man. If they only knew. How easy and straight up it is to earn online (well in my area that is) I mean you'd love to share but sometimes not everyone understands?

like people can't handle it. earning xxxxxx amount doing x+x+x things, is crazy for them, where in it's just a day in the office for most of us.

It sucks sometimes since i see people who i feel are more hardworking than me, go in and go out and can just never grasp the mindset that we have.

Especially in my country :D where I live on a very very low monthly cost -- including treating my friends and what not. )

Man, Secret agent catz reporting for duty. :D

Yeah I continually do jokes to be honest. my favorite:

    friend: what do you do?

me: I run an adult dating site for guys and gals.

    friend: can i join?

me: get a tank top on and some weird jeans and i'll get my SLR to put you on my site...

    friend: WTF?

Not as funny witout my trademark sarcasm. LOL:rain:

Just tell them you're a criminal.
They will never ask again. And probably never talk to you again.
At least you get rid of the question right? :)

The 'what type of business do you own' question is sort of a hard one to answer for IM'ers because you don't want the conversation to be all about what it is you do or how you make your money.

I've been asked the question just a few times in the past and I've always answered the question with a response such as:

"I produce or procure informational products and then re-sale them via various marketing channels"

And then immediately turn the conversation back onto the person who has asked the question with a response like:

"What about you? What do you do?"

And then once they've answered that question, I continue asking further questions and before they know it, I'm talking to them about their own life and they're just sitting there talking away.

Should they continue to poke further into my business, I just simply provide short answers and do my best to re-direct the conversation back to them.

I used to try to explain everything and people would look at me like I am stupid. Now I just tell them I am a web designer/marketer.

I`m always keeping peoples on unclear things when they are asking such questions , actually most of my known peoples know I`m pretty good '' at computers '' anyway here where I leave it's still like 3'th - 4'th world in terms of technology .... I don't think 2% of population really knows how's work their own cell phones :) ... anyway ... it's depends just about what I`m doing at the moment of given time since I`m switching quite faster my '' targets'' it's easy to tell them different shiets about my '' working hours '' :)

I say: "I do web sites and things lihe that", and then add: "the business is not so well". Done, no one ask more questions if you put a sad face and said that

I found the shortest and least questioned answer to be......

Then if they ask what that's about you say

Then deflect, say its alright, and ask what they do lol
