My last journey failed: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/creating-a-news-empire-defeating-the-mainstream-media-big.942801/ - I earned close to no money with it.... but I have learned quite a bit from it. Also lost about $40....

But now I have a lot of spare time since it's summer vacation, and I want to start an ecommerce store. So, I have the following idea. Please tell me what you think of it.

I came across these websites and I basically want to copy the idea and do it in my country:
    https://www.ruindays.com/
    https://www.glitterretribution.co.uk/
    https://shipyourenemiesglitter.com/

There is literally no competition for this service in my country, just one old ugly site.

    But I have some questions....

    1) Is this legal to do?
    2) If there is any damage caused, who's responsible?
    3) Should I protect myself legally?
    4) Do you guys recommend WooCommerce or Shopify? Shopify is very limited in my opinion in terms of design.

Now my budget looks like the following:

    - $57 business license in my country
    - $29 x 2 = $58 (two months Shopify)
    - $14 domain name + who.is privacy
    - $150 in inventory to start with
    - $XX.XX / month for a PO box (not sure yet how much it costs)

Am I missing something? I won't initially invest in any type of ads, since I'm pretty sure word-of-mouth marketing and just posting about it in forums will drive sales, maybe paying someone to open the product while getting filmed and posting it on YT. I'm pretty sure this will work. If for some reason I can't drive sales, I'll spend about $150 in marketing. I want to spend in total at max $450 in this in the beginning.

What are your guys thoughts? Bad/smart idea? Should I give it a go?

    Thanks in advance.

I think it could work, but I think you are overestimating "word-of-mouth marketing and just posting about it in forums".
People share new things online and as you have pointed out citing other sites, that this is not a new idea.

As far as I can see you have calculated funds needed to start the project, but have you thought about what you will earn from it? Some estimate numbers - how much traffic you will receive, your conversion rates, profits, etc. Because obviously you are doing this for some nickels and dimes.

Do you need that business license in your country?

Very true, I'll initially try to drive sales without any costs and if that doesn't work I'll start putting money into FB ads.

Smart remark. No I haven't looked into the profit margins yet, will do that shortly!

Great, I'll start a journey thread soon, I just want to hear other opinions on my idea before I move forward and some answers to my questions.

Firstly its good to see someone discussing something other than affiliate or CPA / Adsense.

Now on your idea, It totally depends on your country. In USA, even the stupidest business idea can get coverage & publicity. However in other countries its hard to even get mentioned in social media.

Your best bet is "paying someone to open the product while getting filmed " Post it on facebook and boost that post with $20 - $50
add message like "TAG a person/friend who deserve this" etc etc

As for the legal thing, I don't think its wise to use your REAL Contact information for this sort of idea. Being anonymous is the best option. Beside legal, what if a couple of guys decided to show up at your office and have some friendly chat with you?

secondly, you can cut down this expense smartly.
    - $29 x 2 = $58 (two months Shopify)
    - $14 domain name + who.is privacy

You can buy namecheap domain with coupon = $11 with who is
And instead of shopify, use stablehost 1 year unlimited hosting for $47 .(Search for the 50% Off coupon) Its awesome.
Install wordpress & woocommerce, get some nulled theme from BHW and you are good to go. You can use the same hosting for other stuff later.

You do not have any marketing strategy, so you should fail again.

With that, you should check what shipadick.com did.

They basically did that, except through a first person picture album on imgur and got to the first page.

    Major exposure.

First person picture album example :

"oh I didn't order anything online? What could this be?,*picture of parcel on doorstep*

Very good advice, especially this one:

Your best bet is "paying someone to open the product while getting filmed " Post it on facebook and boost that post with $20 - $50
add message like "TAG a person/friend who deserve this" etc etc

And the reason why I'm still doubting is because of what you said: "Beside legal, what if a couple of guys decided to show up at your office and have some friendly chat with you?" I live with my parents (I'm 16) and I don't want some big guys come over to my house and take revenge on me...

All in all very useful answer, thanks!

Yes that's a very smart one, I'll definitely do that once the store is up and running.

I'm working on that right now, with some very useful suggestions from other members. And I'd rather try and fail than fail to try...

Bro you gotta chill lol, if you take the right steps and get who.is privacy noone will be turning up anywhere.

I wish I had the same experience when I made my first dropshipping store - my parents were not happy to see I recieved a letter from Gillettes solicitors stating I had to take the site down or face legal action.

Must be frightening to receive such a letter :O But yeah maybe I'm a bit paranoid...

I'll create a journey thread soon when the store is up and running so everyone can follow along and learn something!

I think its a great idea. If you are going the glitter route then you should think about your demographic. Women 20 - 45 range will probably be your biggest market for this. I would not market it in a malicious or negative way though, try and make it funny. There are way more people out there looking to get a laugh or do something funny than mean. If you target this at the revenge crowd you will have a much smaller market. Don't get me wrong there is a market there but it's not as big. Or at the very least people may be more reluctant to go that far in terms of effort. If its a practical joke I think more people would be interested.

My advice would be to look at the sites of your competition in this niche and see what they are targeting and what sort of ads they are running. You will learn a lot from that. at the same time when you are there take a look at their legal stuff and terms of use. They will probably have a few disclaimers in there that cover them, i'm not saying just copy it but you could learn a lot from that and go to some legal forum to get advice from someone who knows what they are talking about.

I would not worry about repercussions though, as long as you have some sort of virtual office address or PO Box then you should be fine. I cant imagine anyone is going to get that upset about glitter. If you're sending poop its a different story and probably very illegal lol.

Its a great idea, but like some others have said you need to put some more thought into it first. what is the postal service like where you live, can you send something at a reasonable price, does it get there fast, people dont care about price so much but do care about speed. you need to calculate costs per unit and how much you are selling it for, you need to include all your business costs in that unit price as well. dont make anything up until you have to, start with a little inventory as you can until you get noticed and start getting orders.

There are all sorts of ways you could promote it, if you make some good posts you could just put them in the right places and get buku traffic, if you automate that then you will have a steady stream of traffic and sales and you can work on scaling it up. I think its a great idea, i have several offline businesses, they are hard work and dealing with customers takes time, but if you can scale it right i'm sure it will do very well. When I say offline I mean that has an actual physical product and not digital, I should say ecomm but with or without the internet you are still dealing with a physical item. If you get this working well you could use a drop shipper but with the price i imagine you will be charging that will be tough, better to do it in house.

Good luck and I hope you do start a journey thread
