I'd say the #1 problem with people on their forum, especially young folk is the inability to focus on a single project for a long time. People like to dance from one creative idea to the next. Meanwhile, their ideas might be good and validated well, they just lose interest for whatever reason.

What do you do to prevent this?

ARE you talking for everyone or particularly, yourself?

Well, i stay focus by in a project, through the following:

Looking at the money been banked by those making it,
    Dreaming about it,
    Staying focus on accomplishing it.

It might sound stupid, but usually, dreaming about something makes you more determined to make it.

Well, as long as there is money I can put into my bank account each day I stay focused if that stops my focus stops and I move to something new!

Any time I get a new idea, I perform a process of elimination by testing out each idea before moving on to the next idea. I try to find out if I'm comfortable working on the idea and if I could see myself doing that 2 years from now.

For example, a few years ago I used to offer a photo editing service. After a few months and many clients, I realised that while I like editing photos for myself, I hate editing photos for other people, so I stopped offering the service to all but a few people who I still do photo editing work for to this day.

On the other hand, I started testing out a web maintenance service earlier this year for a few clients who needed it and found that I really enjoyed maintaining sites for other people; it pays well, the work is fairly easy for me, and it's something I could see myself doing 2 years from now.

Three folders on my desktop, Projects section. Past, Present, Future. Things I've completed and are live/in production, or clients I've had in the past and our contract period has ended go into Past. Things I'm currently working on and current clients goes into Present. Ideas and concepts or clients I'm waiting to hear back from go in Future.

Regarding your question, I don't prevent it. Here's what I currently have going on:

A full time 9-5 office job
A busy ORM side business making more than my day job
Five AdSense niche sites I'm in the process of working on for passive income
Four pro bono clients I'm doing digital branding work for (friends/family)
~11 ideas I'm building frameworks for in the Future folder
Numerous investments I've been keeping an active eye on
A novel I've been working on for around two years
Maintaining a household, including cooking/cleaning for a wife busier than I am and a high-energy small dog
Exercise/nutrition progression in the hopes to lose some weight and gain some muscle for next summer

The only thing I can suggest is to try many things and see what works for you. My focus is all over the place. I wish it was better, but I'm getting by just fine. Just strategize your day's tasks beforehand and don't stray from the goals. To do lists are an immense help.

I have come to realize that when I'm burnt out on a project and want to quit it, I'm actually just stuck on one part and getting bored with the process.

So, I'll either grind through that part and get a new jolt of inspiration as I move onto the next part, or I'll leave that part to the side while I work on other aspects of the project, then come back and finish when I'm further along and I have a clear vision of the end goal once again.

some beer helps to stay creative (learned it from Dr. Al Sears), but you need to channel your creativity to make it work for you...
creativity helps in finding new viral ideas

Listen to the Tim Ferriss Show podcasts. Can't recommend them enough. Usually pull 3-5 useful tidbits from each one to use in my day to day life.

Haha, I was just about to mention him. His books made my life much simpler, I got rid of so many things and I am way more creative now. Didnt check his podcasts though, going to listen to them! Thanks for the tip!
