I often do read information about micro niche sites or autoblogs or other related topics. Then i can find tutorials on how to find such niches but what do you consider a real "micro" niche site? how big or small is that micro for you?

I just wondered myself about that for finding good niches to master and rank. So how big should the monthly search volume be? And of course how many other sites as competitors are ok or easy to master?

I do keyword research with google's external keyword tool only. after i found a keyword with some good search volume i check it in a generic google search with the keywords in "". i often check that for the german region only. so if i can find a keyword with a search volume of 2500 a month and 20000 other sites from competitiors i would consider that as a micro niche. what do you think?

I would appreciate some good answers and how do you check for micro niche sites. This information would be useful for all i think and especially for beginners :D

The exact lines of what constitutes a niche and micro niche are a bit blurry, depending on the perspective of the user. For me, I would consider any keyword that has a monthly search volume below 20,000 (exact phrase local search volume of google US) as a micro niche.

I tried using google keyword external tool but it is too slow for my taste. If you are serious about keyword research use a tool such as micro niche finder and/or market samurai. Both of them are shared in the members download section too! Personally I prefer micro niche finder to hunt for good keywords (anything that has soc number in the green with 4000 and above exact search volume). Then to double check seo competition with market samurai.

It pays to double check since any tool might be mistaken at any particular instance. Also, triple check with google search in "" quotes yourself to check out the top 10 ranking sites with seo quake firefox plugin. I've had keywords which show more than 100,000 competing pages but the top 3 sites all being social bookmarking pages (easier to defeat with a good backlinking campaign).

Phew, that was a much bigger reply than I had planned. Hope it helps!
