I would like to get some ideas on how to pick the right niche, I have my own ideas but would like some more ideas from others.

Does it have to have small advertiser competition, and around how many searches are good from smallest to highest, or can it be a big niche, and rank good for a page that has a smaller niche ?

Looks good but that's not all.

Check out the sites on page 1 of the search results.
Determine how strong they are based on PR, backlinks, authority, etc.

These 1st ten are the ones that are your real competition.
To get a decent amount of traffic you have to be at the top of this 1st page in Google.

When I did Niche Marketing the first thing that I would do is, find a problem and figure out how I could solve it. I learned this from my initial mentors.

You do not want to find a product and figure out how to sell it, you want to find your audience first. And you want to make sure your audience has a NEED to solve the problem that they have.

And more than likely your target will always have a similar problem. So you begin to build your list, build a relationship, and milk your cow.

    Example :

    What not to do...

Search through clickbank for high selling product w/ high gravity and all the other signs people tell you to look for, than try your hardest to sell to the first audience to find.

    What do to...

Get yourself a pen and a pad and ask yourself,

    What does mothers need ?
    What does homeowners need ?
    What does newlyweds need ?
    What does "Target" Need ?

Than search for where the target gathers. Forums, discussion groups, etc. Become one of them. Think how they think. Join places that they suggest.

Find out what types of questions are being asked. Than figure out how YOU can answer those questions.

After you do your initial research, than you look through affiliate programs to see who has what your target needs.

    @durcx

That looks good, with the right tactic you should land among the first 3.

I assume you have a decent product to go with it.

Make your description(s) good cause that's what shows up in Google under the title.

Imagine what happens when your competition have descriptions that just shows some features, the price, specifications, etc. AND you have a description in the line of:

"I had the same problem and tried them all, believe me. This one is different and I see great results. What you need is..."

"The (model) just received a raving review. This is the best available at the moment. I found the best price at..."

All my sites are based on Wordpress and I use All-in-one-SEO to get my "appetizers" (most of the times) in the SERPS. Just make sure to put those lines in the content of the post as well so it really is a excerpt.

I leave the excerpt open intentionally to create curiosity.
