Hello, this is my first creating a site. I'm not sure entirely what ALL I need to get it started. I know the basics: Domain, site it self, and hosting. But I heard somewhere about a VPS? So I don't know. I just don't want to mess anything up, and get it right the first time to save me some stress later.

If you can help I'd very much appreciate it!

    Thank you

First thing you need to do is figure out what your site is going to be about. Google keyword research.

I know all of that. I have a whole business plan ready. Just want to make sure I have all of the website requirements first before taking action and spending money

VPS .. google it to find out what it means .. and then you will realize its got nothing to do with website
hosting .. yes you need it since the "internet" needs to know where to send "visitors" of your site
domain name ... yes you need that ..just like the dmv.. you need to register your "website"

    regards.

You are going want to start reading Html and css tutorials to understand how to build a website. How to list data.

Or you can buy a website theme, then read the guide on about how to make changes to the website.

Next you'll need some content for the website.

NOw that you have content and the knowledge to create a website

Follow Phpbuilts thread about building a authority Site, learn from it. Learn how to create silo structures of pages.

Now that you got an understanding of that, create your website locally on your computer and test it, make sure everything works, once you are 110% satisfied you can then start buying the domain name, and transferring it all.

You don't need VPS unless you have massive traffic (250+ visitors per day).
you need a domain, hosting and then just install Wordpress (so make sure the host includes SQL database, and preferably cpanel.

or if you want an easier entry point you could sign up at Wordpress.com (free) and they do all of it for you.

Like other people have said go with a shared hosting plan, or scalable cloud hosting package that can offer a one click install of a CMS like WordPress, then find out how to use it (its very, very simple)!

Then once the above has been done roam the net to find a theme and plugins to suit your needs.

VPS is more if you like to have full control over your server. A VPS is just as it sounds a Virtual Server. For a first site you should go for a hosting plan and not VPS. If you take a VPS you will need to learn how to set up a webserver and tweak it and also security. Allot of job for a first site and maybe only one site.

When / if you get more sites 5+ i would go for a VPS.

A VPS and hosting are basically the same. Hosting plans are mostly shared, meaning many people are on the same server. This makes it so the cpanel license is split between all users. When you site becomes more popular, it is possible to upgrade to a VPS. This will cost a bunch more. If you are just starting, everything should cost you no more than $20. That is ~$11 for the domain and ~$9 for the first month of hosting.

Purchase web hosting(many providers in the market place area), purchase domain name, Create website. When creating the website I would use word press because it is an easier platform to learn(search the download section for guides). A VPS is not necessary to begin with.
