I want to start a new forum and i currently can't afford $285 for a new vBulletin license.

What if I use a nulled version? Can i get caught? I want to make a private forum with a salespage so people will need to pay to be members.

    What should i do?

there is no use. They will contact your hosting provider and your account will be banned. And the most terrible thing is, they banned you when you have a high traffic.

Just use free forum script like phpbb or mybb, or you can use buddypress, since it is SEO friendly.

Put it on an OffShore Server and you'd be safe! ;)

If I was in your situation, I'd go with phpbb

Just take a host that dont care if u use nulled software.
Or if they nag later on just be sure to have DB backup, so if they kill your site, than you can go and buy a licens "when your forum is big and you have the cash".

People who distribute nulled copies might've put backdoors into the vB distro.

I started a forum with nulled copy of vbulletin and I got the same message after about 2 - 3 months. They even contacted my host asking them to shut down the domain that the forum was hosted on. The host however didn't and well I ended up buying vbulletin because of this.

I had a nulled vbulletin forum on a host, and they killed my entire account, said they wouldnt reopen it until the forum was gone.

So thats just 1 thing that can happen.

But there are 2 types of nulled forums, the ones with the fake serial, and ones without it, i used the one without the fake serial, thats maybe why i was caught, or maybe someone reported me, i dont know, but i got caught and had to take it down.

Best not to mess around with VB either buy it or use an open source alternative.

Vbulletin is the best. Lots of features in ACP. Don't compare it with Phpbb.

the new invision power board would be my first choice now of forum software,
before it was always vbulletin, but the ability to see who quoted you on IPB is pretty damn good.
