Semi-Noob Question: So I have an .EDU subdomain from a uni. Its a well known school in the US. Would it be a good idea to set-up an autoblog driving backlinks to my money site? Or will that be a red-flag? lets say, 10 edu backlinks a day[I can do manually actually]...
    any help would be appreciated.

Since the backlinks will come all from the same domain, the benefits per link will decline with every link you place. I'd just make a 5-page installation with links mostly on images or other not-so-visible locations. Why? I wouldn't want to risk getting a letter from the administration of your university, just not worth it.

I'd write 5, 500-1000 words post on your niche. Then add in some less visible backlinks in these posts. Add a few poorer quality posts, they can be spun if done well. In these lower quality posts, link out to domains with a good reputation. This will make the site have a good diversity in terms of outbound links. Then you could look at building backlinks to your .edu blog.
