---- THREAD CLOSED 12/18/2015 ----
Let's get an interesting and controversial topic going here that will have worldwide opinions.

What are your thoughts on the death penalty/capital punishment?

I live in the United States. 31 out of 50 states have the death penalty. Last year, 35 inmates were executed. Over 3,000 were on death row. Most of the actual executions are electric chair (a la Green Mile), or lethal injection. Utah is bringing back the firing squad, though.

I really don't know what to think about it, opinion-wise. I'm very much on the fence.

I know we have quite a few members from the UK, where they haven't had the death penalty in over 50 years. I also know that, while not used often, the death penalty exists in India.

I'd love to hear others' opinions on this matter. And for fucks' sake, please:

1) Don't make this about gun control,
2) Don't turn this into a political or religious shit-flinging festival.

Thanks, homies.

If you killed a guy. You deserve to die. Though it doesn't fit any other crime. Capital punishment for murder is justice well-served.

I do not support it. I don't think we as humans have the right to end other people's lives.

It must be there. I support death penalty for terrorists, rapists. In India death penalty will be given under very rare cases only. Ofcourse, they can file a mercy petition to president and it takes atleast a decade to decide whether to hang or not.

I hope not. I'm hoping that people can keep this from turning into a shit-show. If it does while I am online though, I'll close the thread myself.

A few good responses already, though. I like how there are already differing opinions.

Anyone want to bet some money on it?

I think if you murder someone you should be dealt with accordingly.

I can understand that thinking. I just know that if I killed someone, spending the rest of my life in prison would be torture as I'd constantly be reminded of the horrible pain I caused. Then again, there are some people who just don't value human life and probably enjoy jail.

Isn't it, like, 7:30 am there?

This section is boring as fuck the past couple days. Trying to spice it up a little.

I hope the thread stays open. It will be a good test to see how far BHW has come. We should learn to respect other people's opinions even if they are the polar opposite to our own.

For me if the state kills what kind of example is that setting to the millions that look up to it for moral guidance? An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth is justice that's hundreds of years out of date....

OP are you running for the US presidential elections?

OP is just trying to bring some intellectual conversation to the Lounge.

There is Quora and Reddit for that...the OP should be posting some ORM pointers like his signature says...

This is the Lounge, you can post anything you want as long as it's within the rules.

Who looks to the state for examples?

And why is eye for and eye "out dated"? Because it originated a long time ago?

On another note. Im actually 50/50 on this topic myself but I can see why people would not support it and I can see why some would support it.

Relax, brother. I'm not some robot only here to spit out mediocre ORM pointers. I'm not running for any presidential elections. I'm not interested in navigating the shit-show that is Quora or the hivemind circlejerk of Reddit.

Just trying to inject some possible intellectual discussion into the Lounge. I apologize if you have been offended in any way.
