    Need some serious seo/bh advice.

For the last few months i have been working on a client site (.co.uk).
The domain has history of about 5-8 years and has always been between 10-20th page for its main kw.

I have been working on it now for sometime but noticed another site doing really well in serps and is now pos1 on page1 for the kw im targeting.

What i need to know is what techniques they are using to gain such good serps? is there a tool out there that can help me find this out?

    Any suggestions welcomed.

Oh, the site is www .icelolly .com

The site has 561 links from different root domains which have probably been built up in a natural way.
They have ?cheap holiday offers? as an anchor text link on 202 different root domains
They have ?cheap holidays? as an anchor text link on 26 different root domains
They have a lot of variation of anchor text
They have some high quality paid links (often dismissed for not looking natural)
They have ?cheap holiday? in the footer which leads back to the homepage
They have a lot of related content through there articles and Q&A
They have established social media channels
    They do TV advertising
    They sponsor TV programs
They have 92,000 internal pages each producing internal anchor text links
    They have high traffic
They have games which entice people to revisit the site, bookmark the site, and bring in extra links.
They have an established adwords campaign
They probably have an established email marketing campaign
The site is probably managed by a top quality SEO agency
Google see this kind of site as extremely authoritative and I personally agree that it deserves to be ranked at number 1

or could you send me a break down of the urls linking from the root etc ...

BTW . i agree ... they deserve to be No1
I just want to understand the logic/techniques behind it.

The site has 561 links from different root domains which have probably been built up in a natural way. (these are easy to get accidentally spamming scrapebox blasts)
They have "cheap holiday offers" as an anchor text link on 202 different root domains same as above
They have "cheap holidays" as an anchor text link on 26 different root domains same as above
They have a lot of variation of anchor text you described two anchor texts
They have some high quality paid links (often dismissed for not looking natural) This is probably more influential than you think
They have "cheap holiday" in the footer which leads back to the homepage Perhaps this helps?
They have a lot of related content through there articles and Q&A 92k pages of spun content... yipee
They have established social media channels This is a big one, but it's way down your list
They do TV advertising irrelevant outside of direct domain traffic
They sponsor TV programs See above
They have 92,000 internal pages each producing internal anchor text links I'm curious... 92k pages of spun shit producing internal links prob has the same effect as about 100 (or a negative effect).
They have high traffic Google doesn't know this unless they have analytics
They have games which entice people to revisit the site, bookmark the site, and bring in extra links. Link bait doesn't work unless it's very good
They have an established adwords campaign Irrelevant
They probably have an established email marketing campaign I cannot imagine the irrelevancy of this...
The site is probably managed by a top quality SEO agency Obviously it is... but that is meaningless as well.
Google see this kind of site as extremely authoritative and I personally agree that it deserves to be ranked at number 1

I agree here... it's prob the best, I just wouldn't pretend it's special

Sometimes i don't know why i even bother.

"The site has 561 links from different root domains which have probably been built up in a natural way. (these are easy to get accidentally spamming scrapebox blasts)"

Have you had any success with that? these are not natural and more than likely extremely low value.

"They have a lot of variation of anchor text you described two anchor texts
They have some high quality paid links (often dismissed for not looking natural) This is probably more influential than you think"

I described the 2 main keywords that the site is ranking for, the site a variation of links. I purchase paid links myself, but i have a feeling that you have no idea, but thanks anyway.

They have ?cheap holiday? in the footer which leads back to the homepage Perhaps this helps?

    Yes, it helps

They have a lot of related content through there articles and Q&A 92k pages of spun content... yipee

I do not see any spun content, all looks legitimate to me, maybe you can show some example pages?

They have established social media channels This is a big one, but it's way down your list

Just because Google now uses social signals as a ranking factor it does not make it a big one.

They do TV advertising irrelevant outside of direct domain traffic

This has to be one of the biggest factors as it builds related traffic, it builds a bigger brand, and it allows people to socialize about the site.

They sponsor TV programs See above

Wow, it seems that you have a serious problem here, did i do something to upset you? this also builds a brand.

They have high traffic Google doesn't know this unless they have analytics

lol, I can assure you they have analytics

They have games which entice people to revisit the site, bookmark the site, and bring in extra links. Link bait doesn't work unless it's very good

even if it generated 1 link it is worth it, I have no idea how you can say that.

They have an established adwords campaign Irrelevant

Looks like you don't know how to build a brand, i'm sure there's some tutorials on here somewhere.

They probably have an established email marketing campaign I cannot imagine the irrelevancy of this...

    Ummm, no comment

The site is probably managed by a top quality SEO agency Obviously it is... but that is meaningless as well.

Sorry, just thought the op should know.

I feel as if you have made a personal attack against me and just wondering why?
